#Netflix has been slowly taking over the entertainment industry with its original shows and movies. It has been a behemoth in the TV game for years now and has produced a number of quality movies, however it is yet to create a story that could continue over multiple movie installments.

The director of Suicide Squad, David Ayers seems intent on changing this, and may have just done so with the upcoming fantasy cop movie, Bright. Take a look at the trailer for the ambitious and interesting film below:

The film stars Will Smith as a human cop and Joel Edgerton as the first Orc cop, they attempt to stop a nuclear weapon in the form of a magic wand that grants any wish the user decrees. This is one of the strangest story concepts we've seen in quite some time, and is a completely original idea from the mind of Max Landis. The idea of fantasy mixing with reality isn't anything new, but the concept almost makes this look like Lord of the Rings meets End of Watch.

An Interesting and Original Plot

The premise itself is promising as you obviously have some real word racial issues being addressed in the film. The distrust between humans and mythical creatures seems to be a major social issue in this world. The relationship between Will Smith's Scott and Joel Edgerton's Nick will more than likely be tested through their different races, and the pair will have to overcome that distrust in order to work together and find the wand.

The partners will be chasing down an elf named Tikka who has taken possession of the first magic wand seen in years. Magic wands in this world are not like those in Harry Potter, in this world magic wands are on the same level as nuclear weapons, and they can cause severe damage depending on who the user is.

Scott and Nick are not only trying to track down this elf, but fight off whoever else is looking to take control of the wands power, indicating that Bright is clearly going to be an epic tale of both fantasy and real world action.

A Universe of Possibilities

In fantasy the world building is almost unlimited. You have a completely original universe that you can explore and creatures to discover; and while Bright will essentially meld both our world and fantasy together, there is still some incredible world building that can take place. There is so much lore that could be added to this film and potential set-ups for even more trouble in future films.

New creatures or weapons could come into play, but it's not even about what sequel plots could center around, it's about how good the plot of Bright looks. The chemistry between Smith and Edgerton appears incredible, and the characters surrounding them look far more developed then just a group of up-to-no-good fairy tale creatures.

Everyone in this film will have their own motivations for wanting the wand, and the subplots surrounding the racial tension in this world is something that both main and minor characters will be dealing with. This could present us with a much needed in depth look at our own culture, as well as give us an amazing ride with interesting creatures and lore to feed both our nerdy and casual moviegoers side.

Netflix may have something special.

This film looks like something that could turn into a phenomenon that matches the likes of other fantasy franchises — if that's the direction Bright wishes to go. But even if this is just a one and done movie, it will still be a special and eye-opening film, and hopefully open the door for more real world mixed with fantasy incarnations.

Is it likely to win an Oscar? No. However, Marvel and Star Wars movies aren't either, and while it's too soon to tell whether Bright will enter that realm of popularity, the fan interest for the film is strong.

With an impressive cast, plot and a director who has experience in the fantasy, action and cop genre of storytelling, I find it hard to believe that this won't be a massive success for Netflix and Ayers.
