I remember when Dawson's Creek first aired. A J-Crew catalogue had come out with all the stars before they were stars, modeling the clothes they would come to wear in almost every season of the show. I mean, we recognized Joshua Jackson from Mighty Ducks, and there was something familiar about Van Der Beek. But they were such babies, fresh-faced and with no idea how their lives were about to change forever.
When the show finished its first season, I was told that I was moving from my small creek-side town on Long Island to Los Angeles. A huge culture shock. Keeping up with Dawson's Creek was what helped keep me from becoming homesick. Those friends I had out on Long Island that I used to jump canals with were the only friends I had known since pre-school, the only life I had known. So watching these kids (who were just a year older than me) play on the docks with their friends, have crushes and sweaty palms, and work at the local restaurants serving the people who were vacationing in their home town... I felt like I was home.
Before you read the below, here's where the show had left off before this scene:
** SPOILER ALERT**
Dawson had become a Television creator/executive in Los Angeles.
Joey and Pacey end up together in New York
Jen passes away.
Jack is named God father to her daughter Amy.

INT. DAWSON'S BEDROOM
A familiar man in his 30s walks into his childhood bedroom and looks around. Spielberg posters, a stuffed ET, and bookshelves filled with scripts line the walls of this room. He soaks in the nostalgia as his eyes travel to the window. A smile creeps on his face.
A voice is heard behind him.
VOICE:
Are you upset I didn't turn it into a gym?
Gail, Dawson's mother, steps into the room.
DAWSON
(laughs)
Relieved you didn't.
GAIL LEERY
Feels like a million years ago, doesn't it?
DAWSON
Yes. And somehow just yesterday.
We hear the sound of a pebble hitting the window's glass, turning the heads of Gail and Dawson abruptly.
GAIL LEERY
(smirks, knowingly)
What in the...
Dawson returns the smile and heads over to the window, opening it up wide. He looks out.
Standing on the lawn down below are Jack, Joey, and Pacey, all with equally huge smiles on their faces. Ear to ear.
JOEY
Don't for a second think I'm climbing that ladder.
PACEY
Let's go! We got a dead girl's birthday to celebrate!
Jack playfully hits Pacey.
JACK
Doug's watching Amy! Let's do this!
DAWSON
I'll be right down!
Dawson turns to his mother, shooting her an expression of bliss.
GAIL LEERY
I love that you guys do this every year.
DAWSON
I know you do.
GAIL LEERY
She'd love it too.
DAWSON
I know she would.
Dawson kisses his mother's cheek on his way out of the room. Gail looks over the bedroom with her own nostalgic thoughts. She rubs her shoulders and closes the door behind her.

Oh man, I remember watching this series again and again in cable… I remember being upset when Pacey and Joey ended up together, not to mention I was even MORE upset that Dawson and JEN didn’t end up together. Yeah, I shipped that unlikely pairing badly. I wanted Amy to be Dawson’s even if Jen had some dramatic reason not to let him know… like. He’d never go to Hollywood if she tied him down with a kid… Of course in my own head canon Gail was in on it but kept quiet… for Jen’s sake. *sighs*. Yeah, soap opera reasoning ran rampant in my brain. I loved your little snippet into a time somewhere after the final scenes. In fact I’m half tempted to re-stream the entire show again. I think the last time was just heading into Covid… the previous some near ten years ago or more… Thank you.
