'Deadpool 2' Lacks Humor Level of the First, but Remains an Exciting Superhero Movie

I have to say, Deadpool is one of Marvel's best movies. It can successfully make fun of all of Marvel's clichés, and in addition to the typical superhero story, it manages to be pretty funny and have a few fourth-wall breaks as well.

And the sequel has recently come out. I was a little worried about the sequel because I'm generally very apprehensive about sequels, since they usually don't live up to their originals. But I watched it and I'm kind of surprised.

So, like my last review for Solo: A Star Wars Story, I'll start off this review with no spoilers, but then, I'll warn you before I start dropping spoilers.

Let me just say, the first scene is just classic Deadpool banter. The first line of the whole movie is "F**k. Wolverine," so, that should get you pretty excited about this.

The movie's start is a little darker in tone compared to the beginning of the original film. But it was great seeing Dopinder again, and the amount of callbacks to the original.

In the film, Deadpool assembles a team called the X-Force to protect a young mutant boy named Russell from a time-traveling assassin named Cable. And the story was really good. It was very different from the original film, which largely focused on Deadpool's backstory.

Now, not only was the story awesome in Deadpool 2, but the action was AMAZING. The fights were well-choreographed, and the climax of the movie is WAY better than the final climax of the original Deadpool. So, the action and story can be considered a pretty big step up from the first one.

So, I really enjoyed the movie, but now, we're gonna talk about what I think didn't live up to the original: the humor.

Think about the comedy in the original: you get an immediate sense of Deadpool's eccentric, twisted sense of humor from everything about the first few scenes in the film. The opening credits were hilarious, and the comedy was just great.

And come on, how could these scenes not make you laugh?

The first film was just full of laugh-out-loud moments that Deadpool 2 was just kind of lacking in. I mean, the original is definitely funnier than the sequel, though I'm not saying Deadpool 2 isn't funny. I'm just saying there weren't too many moments that really made me laugh out loud.

I mean, I laughed at a joke about Deadpool's box office performance, and a few other moments here and there, but nothing ever made me feel as if the film reached the humor levels of the first.

Believe it or not, the FUNNIEST scenes in the film are the mid-credits scenes. Don't worry, you don't have to stay throughout all the credits for these scenes. After the main credits roll, you get a few hilarious mid-credits scenes.

I'm not gonna spoil them for you, but if you liked the real-world jokes they make in these movies, you'll love these scenes.

So, just to sum it up, this movie has better action than the first, a really good story (albeit, a little cliché), but it doesn't reach the humor levels of the first. Rest assured, it's a very good sequel and definitely one worth watching with terrific performances from Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin.

Now, it's time for spoilers. If you haven't seen Deadpool 2 yet, get away from this article. Spoilers are coming. If you've seen the movie already, continue.

MAN, that beginning was something. I mean, not all movies are willing to take risks, but killing Vanessa in one of the very first scenes of this movie? That is a risk that ended up working pretty well in this film, and it makes sense for the plot, too.

For the record, I didn't love the scenes with Deadpool in mutant prison. That just seemed too weird of a place for our main protagonist to be, and it seemed a little too unconnected from the original movie. You may disagree with me, but I'm just conflicted about those scenes.

I really liked the story, where we find out Cable has come back in time to save his family from Russell. The comic book fans may already know that, but I only keep up with the movies. So, that was pretty good.

Even though I liked it, it was just a bit cliché: the whole "going back in time to kill someone in the past" has already been done in movies like The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Looper. The plot was cliché, but still entertaining.

I would say Deadpool and Cable ended up with some good onscreen chemistry near the end of the movie. And Cable going back in time to save Deadpool's life was a very nice touch to this movie.

The time travel in the movie is still total bulls**t. I know a lot of time travel movies have bulls**t paradoxes and inconsistencies, but the time travel still doesn't make any sense in this movie.

Look, I know I criticized the movie's lack of LOL moments, but one of my favorite scenes is when Deadpool keeps supposedly dying, but ends up coming back and joking.

Now, for the mid-credits scenes. Wow. I LOVED these scenes. You don't understand how satisfying it was to watch Deadpool go back in time and not just kill the X-Men: Origins Deadpool, but also kill Ryan Reynolds before he could star in Green Lantern. Fourth-wall breaking doesn't get any more hilarious than that.

PLEASE tell me this is now canon.

Also, unlike usual end-credits/mid-credits scenes, the scenes in this one actually helped. A LOT.

Deadpool went back in time to save Vanessa, and I REALLY hope that the X-Men: Origins Deadpool really was killed by the Deadpool Deadpool. That would be perfect.

But anyways, I really liked this movie. It was really good, particularly the action. I also liked Domino and Cable.

I'm sorry it took so long. I've been studying recently for my finals, and I just finished one today. I'll watch Incredibles 2 pretty soon.
