Of all the trailers coming out of San Diego Comic-Con this year, Thor: Ragnarok's was definitely one of the most popular, as it showed that the words "fun" and "epic" don't have to be mutually exclusive. Ragnarok also displays a clear deviation from the previous two films in the franchise. Yet, even though Ragnarok could be a pivotal introduction to Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, we also know that there will be a few major deaths and fans have speculated that Thor could be one of them.

Speaking with MTV, Chris Hemsworth hinted that his version of the God of Thunder could be coming to an end, sooner rather than later. While at #SDCC17, Hemsworth gave a backhand answer when he was directly asked when the end date was for his version of Thor. Yet Hemsworth didn't end on an unhopeful note, quickly following up with:

"Who know, if you buy enough tickets for this film, maybe I'll make another one for ya."

Chris's comments bring up a good point about sequels in the #MCU: Any character's arc can come to an end, but if that character is still raking in box office revenue, then the checks get written with a few extra zeroes and lo and behold the franchise continues longer than expected.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no character understands that better than Hemsworth's co-star Tom Hiddleston. His character, Loki, was supposed to be a one-and-done villain in the first Thor movie, but after appearing in three Thor films and two #Avengers films, along with an upcoming appearance in Infinity War alongside Thor, it goes to prove that, just like the comic book iterations, no one really ever has to die forever.

If the Hemsworth era ends, will Thor continue?

Based on the comic books the MCU takes as inspiration, we know that nearly every major superhero title/power has been passed around between characters since their inception. Just look at some of the other Marvel characters whose legacies have carried on over the years:

  • Captain America has been Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson
  • Spider-Man has been Peter Parker, Ben Reilly, Miles Morales
  • Ghost Rider has been Carter Slade, Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, Robbie Reyes
  • Thor has been Beta Ray Bill, Thor Odinson, Eric Masterson, Dargo Ktor, Jane Foster

It's not unheard of in the #Marvel universe for a hero to be reintroduced as a different character. And with the popularity of the Asgardian world, it's likely that if Hemsworth does wrap up his stint as the Asgardian God of Thunder there will be a new story told as another character who has been deemed worthy.
