'Don't Let Go' Is an Exciting Thriller With a Slightly Convoluted Plot

No spoilers!

I don't care what this movie told me. If I ever get a call from my dead uncle Geronimo, my phone is going out the window and I am moving to a different state.

Here We Go!

Don't Let Go is a supernatural thriller written and directed by Jacob Aaron Estes, and it stars David Oyelowo as a police officer whose niece is murdered, but he gets a call from her after she dies, and discovers that she is calling from a few days in the past.

Upon realizing that he is getting a second chance to talk to her, he decides to use this call to save her life and rewrite the past.

I had no expectations of this movie being good before I watched it. I just knew this was the last movie of the summer movie season, and I decided to give it a whirl, and I can say that I generally liked it.

This movie was interesting. I'm gonna start with what I liked about it, and first off, I can say that the premise is pretty intriguing. I really liked the ideas that this movie had, and I thought Oyelowo's performance was very strong.

Estes did a good job of developing the two characters, and making the audience care about them and their relationship. And I think the performances the two leads give are what made the characters seem so real as well.

There's also a good amount of tension in a lot of this movie's sequences where the two main characters are in a certain amount of danger, and these scenes are pretty exciting and enjoyable to watch. The film also does a good job of showing what's happening to the characters in intelligent ways.

For example, one of my favorite scenes in this movie is a scene involving our two leads and some gum. The gum is used by the characters to learn about their situation, and I think it was a pretty well-written scene.

However, this movie has a handful of flaws. Because while we do have very good scenes like the one I just mentioned, it didn't quite feel like this movie ever did anything too special with its premise by taking it any new directions.

This movie starts out really captivating, but by the end of it, it just feels like they didn't take the basic premise of the movie any further than two people having a conversation from two different times.

About halfway through the movie, something happens, and once it happens, the plot begins to get more and more convoluted. Names are given to the audience without a memorable face attached to them, and the story starts getting a bit hard to follow since you don't always know who's who and how everyone is related.

I also felt like the supporting characters could have been given more development because the only real relationship that's given development is that of Jack and Ashley, the two leads. And I felt like if more relationships had been developed, the twist would have felt more earned.

And the finale of this movie had some good ideas in it, but it was also incredibly frustrating, because the villain of the movie has all the time in the world to kill Jack, but they take their time, and I was just thinking, "DO IT ALREADY, YOU FOOL!!!"

Overall, I think this movie had good ideas, and I liked watching it, but just not enough to watch it again or recommend it.

I'm gonna give 'Don't Let Go' a 7/10 (C+).

Also, two more things: this movie would have been better if they had added a more obvious ticking clock. They call each other multiple times in this movie, and it would have been much more exciting if the entire movie had one phone call.

The other thing is I don't really like the movie's title. It doesn't fit the movie's story very well, and I prefer the original title: Relive. But that's just me. Thank you so much for reading.
