There has been some panic, sadness, and even some hatred towards Netflix after the news came out that The Office won't be on Netflix forever. With that said, I have some good news. There is no need to panic yet, because isn't leaving Netflix anytime soon.

What Happened?

NBC Universal announced, on January 14, that it has plans to launch its own streaming service... however, this isn't until 2020. When their own streaming service is up and running, chances are that they will want The Office on their website. Especially since The Office is easily Netflix's most popular streaming show. At least it is according to Business Insider.

It's not Netflix that is getting rid of 'The Office', it's NBC Universal

A lot of fans are getting ready to write their angry tweet and send angry e-mails to Netflix about how unfair this is that they are taking down The Office... however, they must have no idea what is going on, because Netflix has nothing to do with the final decision. Let's put our pitch forks down for now, and maybe later we can all get mad at NBC Universal if we are still upset later.

As Gabe would say, 'So no need to 'Screw Corporate.'"

'The Office' won't be leaving Netflix anytime soon and here is why...

Netflix already has a contract with NBC Universal that means that Netflix is allowed to keep the shows on until it expires... and it doesn't expire until 2021. Even if NBC Universal tried to end the licensing agreement for The Office early, which I doubt they will, they would still not even try until their streaming site it up and running in 2020. So there is a lot of time to quickly binge The Office now, and get it out of our systems.

We have well over six months!

I'll be honest, I was really worried at first too. I thought The Office would be taken down before I could even finish all the seasons. However, NBC Universal's own streaming site won't even be ready until 2020. Which means we still have six months until we even need to worry about it. After that, we still probably have a whole year left of The Office on Netflix. Honestly, I don't know about you, but I will be moving on to another show long before then.

Hello. Nice to meet you! How are you? Hmm... this feels like a really one sided conversation... why don't you follow me on social media, so I can get to know you too!

About the Author

I started blogging about two years ago, and my collection of blogs and articles is getting pretty impressive. I’ve taken online classes for writing, and even some classes about the art of blogging itself. It would be really awesome if you joined the adventure, and maybe even help me think of what to write about next. If you would like to submit some feedback or ideas, you can always tweet me on twitter.

Any chance you could help out a poor student?

Er... ummm.... this is awkward. So it turns out writing doesn't bring in the cash. There is a donate option at the bottom of this page, and every dollar counts. No pressure... just thought I would mention. Thank you either way! If you can't donate, sharing one of my blogs on your facebook or twitter also helps too.
