Double No Seven: Daniel Craig Clarifies His 'Slit My Wrist' Comments About Bond

It looks like Daniel Craig and 007 will get to "Bond" with fandom at least one more time, and the hunky hero is officially on board for Bond 25 after seeming to abandon his post. The blue-eyed and blonde Bond bombshell has taken 007 on quite the adventure over the past 11 years and four films of playing the character, but with the possibility of a James Bond cinematic universe, no one was buying that cinema is quite done with our deadly secret agent just yet. However, after a slew of negative comments aimed at the franchise from Craig himself, where do we go from here?

A slap on the wrist.

It could be a case of egg on your face, because I'm sure most of Hollywood will remember the actor's previous comments where he said he'd "rather slit [his] wrists" than suit up in his tux once again. Perhaps a nine-figure check helped alleviate Craig's cold feet, but when he announced his return to #JamesBond on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he also addressed that "wrist" debacle:

"There's no point in making excuses about it. It was two days after I'd finished shooting [Spectre]. I'd went straight into an interview, and someone said would you do another one? And I went, 'No!' Instead of saying something with style and grace, I gave a really stupid answer."

The drive to Bond 25 has been a lengthy spin in an Aston Martin DB7, and there was a long time when everyone assumed Craig was hanging up his license to kill for good. With the likes of Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Tom Hiddleston all circling the role, it seemed that we were ready to part ways with Danny Boy.

That being said, it makes sense for Craig to have one more shot in the crosshairs as 007. Although 2015's Spectre wasn't as well received as the likes of Casino Royale or Skyfall, it still fit the #SamMendes mould of what we have come to expect from a Bond film since his "gritty" reboot. Also, with the survival of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Spectre beautifully queued up #ChristophWaltz to return as the most iconic Bond villain to ever grace our screens.

Never say never again.

Craig told Colbert that he wants to end on a high, and with rumors that we could see two films shot back-to-back we may finally get a proper saga that isn't just a disjointed mess of lackluster villains and dodgy accents. Looking to highlights like Skyfall, Mendes beautifully wove together the old and the new of Bond from his directorial stint, the previous films, and #IanFleming's novels about the MI6 agent. Mendes is seemingly out, but the pieces are there for whichever director wants it to make a Bond masterpiece for the ages — or alternatively, f*ck it right up.

Even if some think #DanielCraig is a little long in the tooth, I'm certainly glad that he is back again for more. However, with that bumper paycheck and one of the sweetest deals in Hollywood, perhaps the 49-year-old will learn to keep his mouth shut next time — consider us shaken, but not stirred!
