The Tournament of Power is right around the corner in Dragon Ball Super, and with all the fighters from Universe 7 gearing up to take on the strongest beings in existence, fans are left to wonder how it will play out and what new techniques and transformations are waiting for us. I think we all know that series creator Akira Toriyama will have a few surprises in store for us, and I think I have an idea of a possible one.

Goku and Vegeta have been the primary characters through most of Dragon Ball Z and through all of DBS, but one of Goku and Vegeta's pet peeves has always been to be assisted in a fight. When Goku is fighting he refuses help from others. The same applies to Vegeta — their Saiyan pride will not allow it.

Diehard fans of the show know there are specific times where these two broke their unwritten rule and accepted the other's help, including when they had to fuse together to become the fan favorite (and arguably the strongest character in all of Dragon Ball) Vegito. This happens when the two of them put on Potara Earrings that fused them.

There are two kinds of fusion:

Potara Fusion:

When two beings put on Potara Earrings, they fuse to become one. In the case of Kais, they are fused permanently, whereas mortal beings are only fused for one hour depending on how much energy is exerted.

In the #anime this has made led to the creation of Elder Kai, Kibito Kai, Fused Zamasu, and Vegito.

Finger Fusion:

This is the more classic form that many casual fans will know well. This involves a ritual dance where two people can fuse together to become one being for 30 minutes depending on the amount of energy exerted. We haven't seen this used in quite awhile and its hiatus may be coming to end in the upcoming arc.

While Goku and Vegeta hate to fuse and hate fighting together, they won't have a choice in this tournament, which will be a battle royale of 80 fighters all in one ring duking it out for 48 minutes straight. All 10 members of Universe 7 will have to rely on each other in order to survive.

The rules of the tournament only prohibit the use of weapons, which would rule out Potara Fusion, but since finger fusion is simply a technique, it should be allowed. Being able to see the finger fusion form between Goku and Vegeta, Android 17 and 18, or maybe even Gohan and Piccolo would be a major moment for fans.

This would give Universe 7 a clear advantage over the other universes (assuming that no other has this ability). Fusing any of those 10 warriors together would instantly make a superior being for 30 minutes.

Could we see 5-way fusion?

A little known fact is that more than two people can take part in this fusion. Up to five fighters can fuse together to form one powerful being. While this hasn't been done in the anime, it has been done in many games featuring these same characters.

This could be the introduction of "Maxi-Fusion," as the five-way fusion is called, but even if we could get three or four-way fusion, it would be an amazing introduction for this unseen technique to the anime. Imagine just having the fused being of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan — that fighter would overshadow Gogeta or Vegito by a mile.

I think the ultimate Maxi-Fusion would have to be Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo and Majin Buu. I don' know what you'd call him: Gogeccolhanuu? The amount of ass he would kick thought would have to be fathomless.

Even if we just get the classic fusion of Goku and Vegeta (Gogeta), I can see many fans still being satisfied. With all 10 fighters competing at the same time, and teamwork shaping up to be an important factor in the arc, if we're ever going to get Maxi-Fusion, now would be the time.

We always expect a new technique or tansformation in a major story arc so this would be a mix of both to present the fans with something new and exciting.

Possible Drawback

The only worry I have about using this technique is based around the rules of the tournament. The rules states that whichever universe has the most members present once time expires will win the tournament.

If we have two, three, four, or five members fused together into one being when time expires then it's possible that the Omniking and Grand Priest could count that being as one sole contestant.

It may seem like a silly drawback but its something I could easily see Akira Toriyama doing. Watching excitement build as a fused being tears through the tournament only to still lose because he was only one fused contestant against two would be just the tease I could see them pulling.
