Black Adam

From now to 2020, theatres are going to be flooded with superhero movies. Multiple movies are coming out each year, from all studios (although I have no idea what's up with Sony, even after the Spider-Man deal), and it's easy to forget one: Shazam, strolling into theatres 2019.

The first official casting for the movie was not the hero, but the villain. The iconic villain for Shazam; Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson is bringing the villain to life alongside an unknown hero. Well, The Rock himself has opened up about his character to Total Film, via Games Radar:

“I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero. It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilised them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.”

This isn't the first time Black Adam has been called an anti-hero by Dwayne Johnson. He tweeted the distinction way back in December of last year:

Speaking about the film's connection to the DC Cinematic Universe, here's what he said:

“It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humour.”

So . . . that's great. Does this mean that eventually we'll see a Black Adam vs movie? Or maybe in a future Justice League film? But we'll probably see it in a Shazam/Superman vs Black Adam, like the animated movie. Anyways, I'm excited.
