Early Buzz Predicts Wondrous Reviews For 'Wonder Woman' And 'Justice League' Films

It looks like Gal Gadot has been swirling her truth lasso over at Sundance, because the first reviews for the upcoming #WonderWoman and #JusticeLeague films are in. This is great news, especially considering that last year wasn't exactly great for the #DCEU. While both #BatmanvSuperman and #SuicideSquad were paramount in setting up the continuing slate of heroes, neither film exactly wowed — in fact, you could say they panned. With #WarnerBros ploughing more and more money into its pictures, you can imagine that everyone is a little nervous for the future of Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and the rest. Well, if sources are to be believed, we can worry a little less; the buzz is that both Wonder Woman and Justice League promise a return to form for the studio.

The news comes from Umberto Gonzalez, founder of Heroic Hollywood and reporter for The Wrap, so this isn't your usual tabloid tittle tattle. Gonzalez claims that both his sources at Sundance said that both films were good. It will be a relief, especially considering that BvS and Suicide Squad only earned 27% and 26% retrospectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

We've Been Here Before

2017 promises to be an even bigger year for DC than last, with Justice League undoubtedly playing catch-up to Marvel's superhero team the Avengers. As the MCU is officially the most successful film franchise of all time, #DC has some serious ground to cover, and if Justice League is a success, it is expected that DC will eye solo films for each of its members. Bear in mind though that everything can change, and even Ben Affleck's highly anticipated Batman solo film isn't 100 percent on stable ground. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman means more than just box office takings. It should mean big things for female director Patty Jenkins, who is one of the few female directors to break into the male-dominated #superhero genre.

Umberto may tease that both films can expect positive reviews, but Twitter was quick to remind us that we have been here before!

While Marvel consistently churns out fan-favorite films, DC's recent output has been more unbalanced than the members of the Suicide Squad. It certainly seems that if either Wonder Woman or Justice League flops, it could spell disaster for the rest of the DCEU. With a constantly shifting landscape, and films dropping off/being added onto DC's slate almost on a daily basis, nothing is certain. Anything beyond next year's Aquaman could be in trouble, while projects like Shazam and a Cyborg solo are the most likely to be the first to go if things don't go to plan.

Given Wonder Woman's more historical setting, it certainly looks like the strongest contender out of the two — look how Captain America: The First Avenger strayed from your classic supes formula. Surely DC has learned from last year's mistakes? With Snyder and Jenkins at the helm, one, if not both, films are sure to crush the competition. Let's just hope that Gadot can remember where she parked the invisible jet in case Wonder Woman tanks, and if Justice League goes the way of Suicide Squad, at least we have Momoa's abs to ogle!
