Pack your bags and plenty of jawbreakers. We’re going on a wild journey!

Ed, Edd n Eddy Big Picture Show is a Cartoon Network TV movie based on Danny Antonucci’s cartoon series Ed, Edd n Eddy. Three adolescent boys with the same name who differ in personality are on the run after a scam that has gone wrong. Escaping from their neighborhood, Eddy decides to lead his friends to safety. As the cul-de-sac kids give chase, the most memorable journey unfolds before their very eyes.

I cannot believe that ten years ago I was watching Big Picture Show when it aired on Cartoon Network. I was so excited about a TV movie of Ed, Edd n Eddy. It was a fun show to come home from school and watch. The humor and animation may not be for everyone but this friendship portrayed felt realistic and heartwarming.

Of course, I was skeptical about a movie. Could it actually live up to the series? I would love to go back and watch Big Picture Show for the first time because it ended up being a surprisingly heartwarming and emotional experience.

From the moment the movie starts, it’s jet-packed with an awesome car chase! Animation in Ed, Edd n Eddy improved over the course of a ten-year run. The colors and backgrounds are splendid! Since the series only had one location it was nice to explore different parts of the Eds world.

There are noticeable jumps in the animation but that is not a big distraction whatsoever. Don’t be alerted by the wiggly animation. That’s just the style. The memorable unique style.

Every character returns from the series. There is even one new face. I wasn’t all that satisfied with each character’s screen-time. The writers would end a subplot and pick up on another character.

Terrific actors who lent their voices to characters for ten years reprise their roles one last time. Tony Sampson (Eddy), Sam Vincent (Edd) and Matt Hill (Ed) are a splendid team. I have to commend Tony Sampson for his authentic performance as Eddy. He found the character's inner essence.

One of my favorite scenes is the swamp scene. I can’t give away too much but it's a pro-founding scene. Sampson, Vincent, and Hill delivered amazing performances in this scene.

The script could have been executed better. Although it was cool how the characters split up on different journeys, it felt unnecessary at times.

Rolf is one of the funniest characters in the series and yet his scenes are reduced to watching him make the journey alone. Writers could have handled his scenes a lot better.

That goes for Jonny, too. He has a creative subplot returning as Captain Melonhead but he disappears from the story. We don’t know what happens to him after he shows back up at the end. And he was missing for the most important scene!

Aside from that, Ed, Edd n Eddy Big Picture Show is a powerful story with beautiful messages. Friendship is one of the most important themes. For ten years, audiences had the privilege to learn from the Eds friendship. No friendship is perfect.

Ed, Edd n Eddy does a fantastic job with the see-don’t-tell rule. The ending of the film is a big surprise. Writers carefully handled a heavy subject so well. I love the subtle details. After watching the movie you cannot look at the series in the same way you watched it as a child.

I was thirteen when I watched this movie. Big Picture Show taught me to never lose hope and be myself. Life throws us obstacles. It’s up to you how to respond. Make friendships that will last. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.

Danny Antonucci did a terrific job with a TV movie adaptation of a beloved series. There are genuine heartwarming moments and the ending does not feel rushed.

If you have not watched Ed, Edd n Eddy Big Picture Show I recommend it. Buy a jawbreaker and have a fun evening.
