Eight Years Later: How 'Game of Thrones' Has Changed My Life Contest

It truly was the first of its kind. There has never been a show quite like Game of Thrones—one that has had so many viewers all around the world tuning in all at once, moving us, breaking our hearts, and bringing us together. But now the end is coming—so we want to take some time to reflect on what the past eight years have been.

The show has been with us through it all, and while everything else has changed—we’re all at very different places than we were eight years ago—Game of Thrones has been something that’s been a constant, and has even shaped some of our lives. Did you meet your significant other by bonding over the show? Did you get your dad hooked, and now watching every Sunday is a family tradition? Did you get matching Dragon Queen tattoos with your best friend? Whatever it is, we want to hear about it.

That’s why, here at Vocal, we’re celebrating an iconic cultural phenomenon by bringing GOT-loving creators together for another community-wide contest. We're looking for your most heartfelt, surprising, or life-changing stories about how the show has affected you. In order to participate, submit an original story to Geeks using #VocalGOT in the subtitle of your story.

Winners will receive:

Some of our favorite submissions throughout the month will be shared on our Instagram stories. A grand prize winner and two runner-ups will receive:

• Grand prize: $500 USD
• 1st Runner Up: $250 USD
• 2nd Runner Up: $150 USD

Since the winners will be announced and shared on Instagram, please add your social media handles to your Author Page bio if they're not already provided.

Requirements:

In order for your story to be published and eligible, it must be between 600 and 5,000 words, and adhere to our Community Guidelines. Stories published on Vocal and entered into the contest between May 6 and May 31 at 12PM EST will be entered for consideration. Winners will be announced on Vocal and Vocal's social media channels on June 5, 2019.

In order to be eligible to win the grand, second place, or third place prize, you must beover the age of 18 and residing in a country where Stripe is available at time of entry. A complete list of countries where Stripe is available can be found here. Entrants located outside of any of these 32 countries will not be eligible to win.

Here's how to enter:

1. Join Vocal.

If you're not already a creator, create a free account on Vocal here.

2. Connect to Stripe.

Connect your Vocal account to Stripe (step-by-step process here). Prizes for the #VocalGOT contest will be awarded via the winners' Stripe accounts, so confirm that Stripe is connected and banking info is valid before entry.

3. Make sure we can find you!

If you haven't done so already, visit your settings and include your social media handles in your bio so we're able to tag you if we share your story.

4. Create your #VocalGOT submission.

Create and submit your story to the Geeks community, including the hashtag #VocalGOT in the subtitle of your story. After you have successfully submitted your #VocalGOT story, it will be sent to the Vocal moderators. If your story needs any updates or does not meet quality standards or community guidelines, the story will be sent back to you for edits.

The winner will be notified via the email associated with their Vocal account, and tagged on Instagram if applicable.

5. Share your story.

Share your post on social tagging #VocalGOT.
