'Call Me by Your Name' Review

I love watching movies and TV shows, it's actually like a hobby to me. For years I've been watching every kind of movie and TV show, from comedy to drama, thriller to action (and that's how I improved my english). Well, last night I watched Call Me by Your Name, the new film by Luca Guadagnino, which is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the novel by André Aciman. It's the summer of 1983, in the north of Italy. Let me tell you: I haven't felt like this in a long time. I don't even know how to begin to describe a movie like this, so special, so sweet... I'll start by talking about the two characters.

Elio: really sweet and innocent, trying to find himself, trying to figure out his feelings. He didn't care if he had feelings for a boy or a girl, you know that, in those years, it was such a shame to be gay or bisexual but he didn't see something wrong with it. His family raised him to be happy for himself not for others.

Oliver: oh dear Oliver. At first I couldn't understand him really well. Oliver seemed so confident at the beginning, he was hurt by the fact that he couldn't be who he wanted to be and I think it's pretty easy for people to see themselves in him. My favorite thing about him was his love for Elio, the way he didn't wanted to do things with him without thinking it through, but when it happened he was just so happy. His love for Elio was just so real, there wasn't a cell in his body that wanted to hurt him in anyway, he wanted Elio to be happy about what they did, he didn't want him to regret anything.

This love story was just pure, intense and emotional. It made me just squeal the whole time waiting for them to kiss, it gave me goosebumps when they were in a scene together, you would keep thinking: I want that kind of love, that passionate love.

I want to just say thank you to Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet for their acting - their chemistry was speechless, had no mistakes, it felt like it was real life. That kind of acting makes me happy,it's so rare.

And I wanna say thank you to Luca Guadagnino and James Ivory for making such movie, something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you.

Bonus: list of my favorite scenes.

Peach Scene

The way Oliver kissed him was absolutely just pure.

First Kiss

Their first kiss.

We haven’t done anything to be ashamed of, and that’s a good thing, I want to be good.
He was worried about the external world’s judgment.

Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine.

When this happened. It was so passionate.
Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine. Elio...Oliver...Elio.

The Day After

I would kiss you if I could.

First Sign

We all know why this scene is so important. This is where Oliver gave the sign to Elio, but he didn't get it. I'm happy he didn't get it, that let the story grow slowly and it was just right.

Elio and His Dad

“You had a beautiful friendship, maybe more than a friendship. And I envy you. In my place, most parents would hope the whole thing goes away, or pray that their sons land on their feet soon enough, but I am not such a parent. In your place, if there is pain, nurse it, and if there is a flame, don’t snuff it out, don’t be brutal with it. Withdrawal can be a terrible thing when it keeps us awake at night, and watching others forget us sooner than we’d want to be forgotten is no better. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of 30 and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything—what a waste!”

The ending was heartbreaking.
