Emma Watson Already Has an Idea for Where She Sees Belle in a 'Beauty and the Beast' Sequel

Throughout the past few years, #Disney studios has found immense success in their live-action remake adaptations of their beloved animated properties. Their upcoming slate of releases show no sign of the Mouse House slowing down and with their latest adaptation in Beauty And The Beast being an enormous success, they probably will continue until they run out of animated films.

The live-action Beauty And The Beast faced a difficult test when it released last March because the original animated film was only 25 years old. Compared to many previous live-action Disney adaptations including Cinderella and The Jungle Book, the key demographic of people that would see the film or take their kids were exactly the right age to have extremely strong feelings about the animated original. Any hesitation felt from this demographic clearly didn't affect the box office because the film has generated over $1.1 billion worldwide and counting, leading many to wonder if a sequel is imminent because that's the way the world works now.

#EmmaWatson faced the daunting task of portraying the role of Belle and many critics agreed her take on it was one of the best aspects of the film. While speaking with Access Hollywood on the red carpet for her newest film, #TheCircle the prospect of a sequel came up and whether she had any idea for a potential premise.

Watson says she was unaware of any buzz on social media about fans’ hopes for it however she says she “would love” to do Beauty and the Beast 2 someday. When asked where she could see the story headed, she replied with a prospective career that is so Belle:

“I always thought that Belle had become a teacher and she would run the library in the castle, and open it up to the village. This is where I was going."

Watson's idea for where the development of Belle leads is an interesting concept. Although it could use a bit of sprucing up to include a potential antagonist to provide that much needed Disney drama, the concept expands on her role as the kindest (and most intelligent) person in the village. It would allow for the legions of children that look up to Belle to see what happened following the salvation of everyone while also providing a logical step forward in her progression.

Dan Stevens Is Also Open For A Sequel

We certainly wouldn't need a sequel/prequel/another reimaging to Beauty And The Beast although it is fun to imagine how it could play out. The Beast himself, #DanStevens recently spoke with Variety on a potential sequel and stated his support despite it ultimately not being up to him:

"... I’m not sure what turn that would take. I’m open to offers. It would seem odd for me to hear about it, but never say never."

I am a firm believer in "never say never" so if Disney ever finds itself running low on funds maybe they'll resort to developing a sequel to this property to make ends meet!
