Escape From New York Prequel Reveals Snake's Military Title

(WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for the prequel to Escape From New York. You've been warned)

As probably some of the greatest entertainment news to be recently revealed, a prequel to the 1981 classic Escape From New York is in active development. According to Bloody Disgusting news, 20th Century Fox has released several spoilerific details on the prequel to Escape From New York in active development, as well as some rather interesting factoids about the main protagonist, Snake Plissken.

The Criminal Once Known as Snake Plissken Is Actually 'Colonel' Robert Snake Plissken

Between #EscapeFromNewYork and #EscapeFromLA, not much was said about Snake's backstory or what happened before he "arrived" in New York. Yes, he has a checkered past as a crook, but apparently his origins are slightly different than we once thought. According to the recently revealed details on Snake Plissken's identity, the new prequel will reintroduce Snake as "Colonel Robert Snake Plissken." Plissken will be called in to recover Thomas Newton and presumably "escape from New York."

It was also revealed that the city of New York would also be re-imagined as a futuristic safe haven rather than a maximum security prison (like in the original). However, New York's initial appearance as being impenetrable thanks to an artificial intelligence program protecting the city will come into focus when a critical flaw in the system leaves the city defenseless at a very vulnerable time.

New York Will Become Vulnerable While Snake Attempts To Rescue Thomas Newton

Another detail revealed that a massive hurricane would strike the city of New York during the film. Unlike the original Escape From New York, where Snake was given 22 hours to complete his mission, Snake only has 11 hours to retrieve his target this time around. Snake will have to recover Thomas Newton and his research before those 11 hours are up or face certain death.

Thomas Newton will be Snake's main mission when the film begins, but he will probably turn out to be an opposing force against #SnakePlissken since Newton is being introduced as the antagonist. It's also been added that Newton carries around a strange piece of equipment around with him that he calls Fat Boy.

What is Fat Boy

Fat Boy Is a dull metal sphere that looks awfully familiar to a red sphere seen in the original Escape From New York. The red sphere in Escape From New York was used to hide the President from harm, so the new "Fat Boy" sphere could have some affiliated function of keeping someone inside.

The Prequel Will Begin Outside Of New York City

Considering how much information the studio just divulged in that brief announcement, it's fair to assume more details will emerge soon. Hopefully, details on which actor will portray Colonel Snake Plissken are revealed. Seeing as how the new film will be a prequel/remake of Escape From New York, a younger actor will need to be recruited in Kurt Russell's place. Russell portrayed Snake Plissken in both of the original Escape films

How Did Snake Lose His Eye?

One other small detail indicates that Snake won't have an eye patch at the beginning of the film, which means the new film will probably depict the scene where Snake loses his eye. Quite a few fans have always wanted to know how Snake really lost his eye so it'll be interesting to see how the scene plays out.
