Everything We Know About 2019's 'Star Twinkle Precure!'

Star Twinkle Precure! is set to be the next installment of the Precure franchise, with the series premiere being set for February 3rd, 2019. When the title was first announced, fans began speculating instantly as to what they may see, but now the first sparkles from the upcoming show have started to glimmer their way onto the internet. Here is everything that has been revealed so far, and it is shaping up to be quite an interesting series. Firstly the synopsis has been released! Here is what it says:

I'm Hoshina Hikaru!I'm a second year middle school student who loves space and constellations!While observing the starry sky to draw a constellation down in my notepad, a mysterious creature known as "Fuwa" warped before my eyes!And then, a rocket fell from the sky, which had the aliens "Lala" and "Puruns" come with it!...You guys, are actually aliens!? Glitterific~☆Faraway from Earth is a planet called "Starry Sky World" and in the center of it is a holy ground called "Star Palace", which contains the "12 Star Princesses of Constellations" who protect the balance of the whole universe...But one day, someone attacked and the princesses turned themselves into "12 Princess Star Color Pens" and scattered themselves across the universe!If this situation continues, the stars will disappears, meaning Earth and the whole universe will be swallowed by darkness...!"When the star's light are lost, the legendary warriors Pretty Cure will rise together with the Twinkle Book in hand to regain the brilliance again."Lala says she is searching for the Pretty Cure along with Fuwa in hope that the legend the princesses conveyed will make the universe go back to how it was before.But then a Knot Raider who wishes to control the universe appeared and attacked Fuwa...When I thought "I want to save Fuwa!", my strong emotions made the Twinkle Book create a "Star Color Pendent" and a "Transformation Star Color Pen" which, transformed me into a Pretty Cure!?Now I have to collect the scattered Princess Star Color Pens and have Fuwa grow up which is the key to the Princesses' resurrectionAlright, time to leave Earth and jump into space~☆

The Heroes

Fan guessed pretty quickly that the team was set to be a team of four and their colours would be pink, blue, yellow and purple. This has been a team line-up for several past series now, which often brings expectations from fans as to how the team dynamics will play out and what personalities the Cures will embody. But now the character's information has been revealed, it appears they are shaking things up slightly.

Hikaru Hoshina—Cure Star

A second year student, she is imaginative and curious with a love of space and the constellations. When it comes to expressing her love of things she is rather forward, which can lead to her becoming stubborn when she is really interested in something. She has the catchphrase "That's insane" and becomes the Precure of Stars, Cure Star. Her first attack will be activated by using the Princess Star Colour Pen Taurus and is called 'PreCure! Taurus! Star Punch!' She will be voiced by Eimi Naruse who is relatively new to voice acting.

Lala Hagoromo—Cure Milky

The first Precure from outer space, Lala is 13 years old and from the planet Samaan, where she is treated more like an adult. Her charm point is the antennae on her head and while on a mission with Fuwa and Puruns to search for the legendary warriors, Pretty Cure, their rocket is warped to Earth by Fuwa and her powers. She is serious and holds a strong sense of responsibility, but can be dense at times. She transforms into the Pretty Cure of the Milky Way, Cure Milky. Using the Princess Star Colour Pen Leo she will unleash the attack 'Precure! Leo! Milky Shock!' She will be voiced by Konomi Kohara who has voiced many characters in her voice acting career.

Erena Amamiya—Cure Soleil

A third year student who shines like the sun and has a wonderful smile. Her high popularity has earned her the nickname "The Sun of Mihoshi Town." She has six younger brothers and often looks after them while their parents run a flow shop in the shopping district "Sonrassa." She transforms into Cure Soleil the Pretty Cure of the Sun and will have the initial attack 'Precure! Libra! Soleil Shoot!' which she will unlock through the Princess Star Colour Pen Libra. She will be brought to life by Kiyono Yasuno who has an extensive voice acting history.

Madoka Kaguya—Cure Selene

A well-mannered and hard-working third year student, she is the daughter of a government official and a world famous pianist. She plays the piano and participates in archery, where she has won the national competitions in both respective skills. She holds good grades at school and is popular for her flower arrangements and being great at tea ceremonies. She is also the student council president of the school and has the nickname "The Moon of Mihoshi Town". As Cure Selene she is the Pretty Cure of the Moon and will use the attack 'Precure! Capricorn! Selene Arrow!' by using the Princess Colour Pen Capricorn. She is set to be voiced by Mikako Komatsu another veteran in voice acting.

Evaluating the Team Compared to Their Predecessors

The team is already breaking some rules within Precure history. The Yellow Cure is the first tan skin toned Precure, and is only the second of all past Precure to have a large family. The Purple Cure is following more of a stereotype of the past Blue Cures, which alters the expected personalities based on colour, compared to the past Purple Cures who have been more lone wolves over team players. The Blue Cure is the first alien Precure, while others have come from other worlds, these are more alternate realities over aliens. Finally, the Pink Precure is set to be stubborn which will be a change from her predecessors.

What they will have a challenge with is making this team stand out due to repeating power bases. Both the Yellow and Purple Cures are the third Precures to represent the Sun and Moon. Cure Bright (Futari Wa Precure Splash Star) and Cure Moonlight (Heartcatch Precure!) have both been powered by the Moon, while Cure Sunshine (Heartcatch Precure!) and Cure Sunny (Smile Precure!) have been powered by the Sun. The Purple Cure will also be the third Precure to use archery in her attack, followed by Cure Aqua (Yes! Precure 5 & Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!) and Cure Beauty (Smile Precure!)

The Pink Precure is also the fourth Cure to be powered by the stars, proceeded by Cure Fortune (Happinesscharge Precure!), Cure Twinkle (Go! Princess Precure) and Cure Étoile (Hugtto Precure!). With this many recurring power themes, the writers will have to be creative to make these new heroines stand out.

Along with the heroes the fairy partners and the mysterious 12 Star Princesses have also been revealed.

Fuwa

A fluffy baby fairy, she holds the key to resurrecting the Star Princesses. She lives within Hikaru's "Twinkle Book" and has the power to create warp portals in space.

Puruns

Accompanying Lala on the mission to find the legendary warriors "Precure" from the planet Samaan. He used to work to the Star Princesses.

These two fairies hold similarities to past fairy partners. Fuwa is similar to Chiffon (Fresh Precure!), Ai-chan (Doki Doki! Precure), Ha-chan (MahoGirls PreCure!) and Hugtan (Hugtto Precure!) as they are all babies with a mystery connection to them revolving around great power. She also has a look similar to Mepple & Mipple (Futari Wa Precure & Futari Wa Precure Max Heart) and Candy (Smile Precure!) with her star tail and cute appearance. Puruns resembles Moof and Foof (Futari Wa Precure Splash Star) who float around over having legs to walk. His appearance reflects a flying-saucer which enhances the space theme behind the series.

Star Princesses

Charged with protecting the balance of the universe before they were attacked and turned into the Princess Colour Pens.

• Bottom Row L-R: Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius & Pisces

We know the Pink Cure will have Taurus, the Blue Cure Leo, the Yellow Cure Libra, and Purple Cure Sagittarrius. Based on the colours of the 12 princesses and these four matching the current Cure's colours, it is likely the other will go to the following.

• Cure Star—Virgo & Capricorn
• Cure Milky—Gemini & Aquarius
• Cure Soleil—Scorpio & Cancer
• Cure Selene—Aries & Pisces

But this is pure speculation based on the background colours and colour scheme of the Princesses against the colours of the team.

It is looking promising for 'Star Twinkle Precure!'

We have had many details revealed on the show, including details on the heroines, what some of the items they will use to fight evil are and who their fairy partners are. What is interesting is the show appears to have a large backstory that will be revealed over the course of the show. The past Precure series to have done this are often remembered in a better light than other series. But, until they debut there is plenty left to be revealed. Who will they be fighting? What turned the Star Princesses into the Princess Colour Pens? The answer to these questions we will have to wait, but until then fans can get excited knowing who their next set of heroines are.
