Fame

This is an AU where Captain America is a character that Steve Rogers plays and Bucky is just a fan, until he texts the wrong person and it ends up being his celebrity crush.

It started with a wrong number text — or rather, a wrong number given to text. The guy — Bucky, apparently — had had a fantastic lay with some guy and was looking for another hookup.

‘I think you have the wrong number. I’m Steve,’ he sent back, trying not to give any details. God, he hoped Bucky didn’t figure it out or anything — that wouldn’t be good for him. He’d dealt with that sort of thing before and really, it had just been a pain to change his number again, but it was still inconvenient.

Steve happened to star in a show that had somehow managed to get very very big. It was even going on to be a few movies and he was incredibly excited, but not for the fame, to be perfectly honest. That was the only thing he didn’t really like about it all.

Bucky picked up his phone when it went off and read the message, blushing slightly when he saw he texted the wrong number.

'I'm so sorry, I thought you were someone else.'

He replied and put his phone in his pocket so he could go make himself lunch.

He'd met a guy the day before through a friend and he'd given Bucky "his" phone number because he didn't have the heart to tell someone he wasn't interested solely because one of his arms was metal.

‘Not at all! Someone give you a fake number?’ He asked. Usually he just deleted texts like that, but for some reason... Not this time.

He set on reading over some lines before getting ready to head out, hailing a cab to get to the studio. ‘So, I gotta ask. How was Brock for real?’ he added after a while. He figured some conversation, a potential new friend... that could be nice. He didn’t really have any, not anymore. People saw him too much as the characters he played and not at all as himself.

Bucky picked up his phone with half a sandwich hanging out of his mouth.

He saw both of the messages and decided to save the number as Steve.

"Well I understand why he'd be put off," he replied, then in another text added "one of my arms is made of metal, because when I was 20, I fell off a train."

Steve texted back a frowny face. ‘Sorry about your arm,’ he said, stretching out as much as he could in the small space. ‘I can’t see that being anything but really cool, though. Can I see?’ he asked, then set in to save the number. He just marked the guy in as Bucky, even though it had to be some sort of pseudonym or nickname or...something.

(pretend the hair is a bit longer)

He finished his food and read the message then smiled a bit at his statement. He thought it was cool. "Well I took this yesterday. There's this show I'm a huge fan of, a series called Captain America, and I've got a lot of merch. But this is me..." he attached a photo and felt a little bit awkward.

He remembered something cute from earlier that day and texted again "Me and my friend were having a few beers in his garden and I found a ladybug, here's a neat picture I took."

Steve’s jaw dropped a little, but he hadn’t exactly *not* expected anything like that. The photos Bucky sent, though... Shit. He was cute. And what made it worse was that Steve knew he was in New York too — even if they were on opposite sides of the damn place, they would potentially be able to meet. Potentially. And Steve wasn’t exactly what you’d call out. ‘No shit? That’s one of my favourites. No clue why Brock bailed though, honestly. You’re cute and the arm is kind of epic... It looks exactly like a flesh arm, just metal. Idk, maybe weird to say.’ He got out of the car then, heading into the studio and finding the schedule. He wouldn’t be too busy, but he sent a text to Bucky, just in case. ‘I’d like to keep talking, but I might be a little busy with work over the next few hours. Not abandoning you :)’

Bucky smiled brightly when he read the first message. He blushed deeply when he saw the part about being cute. "You think I'm cute?" he smirked helplessly down at his phone then turned on the TV so he could watch some movies or something on Netflix. A few minutes later, he saw the other text and smiled again. "Alright, text me whenever 😊," he replied and put his phone in the pocket of his hoodie as he put on one of the Captain America movies, totally crushing over Steve Rogers who played Cap.

Steve checked his phone while some footage was reviewed, grinning. ‘Very.’ He took a few moments to consider, but maybe... It couldn’t be bad if he decided to meet up with the guy, right? And it wasn’t like he would be believed if Steve didn’t give him the opportunity for a selfie or something... ‘Where in NY are you? You have an NY area code... Thinking maybe we could meet up for drinks or something later? I should be off about 6,’ he asked.

He opened his phone and blushed even more and paused his movie so he wouldn't get distracted "pretty close to town square, I'd say about a block or two away. Know a couple bars and cafes in the area depending on the kind of drinks you wanna get. How's 7:30?" he replied and got up to look for some clothes that weren't his dirty sweat pants and hoodie that he threw on last night. The phone was in his pocket and he found a good outfit for either the bar or café.
