Famous Faces Taken From Us In 2016

2016 hasn’t been the best of years so far, and it’s only April. Many lovable famous faces have been taken from us too soon, with Victoria Wood and Sir Terry Wogan amongst them. But despite them passing away, that doesn’t stop us from remembering their iconic moments in the film and television industry.

David Bowie

Back in January, it was confirmed that musician David Bowie had sadly passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer. Grappling with the disease was so private for the singer that some of his close friends weren’t even aware of it. Bowie passed away three days after releasing his 25th studio album. He died at the age of 69.

Alan Rickman

Also in January, the world of Harry Potter lost an incredible star. Alan Rickman also passed away from cancer. He died in the hospital at the age of 69 as well. Fans left emotional tributes to the actor at Kings Cross Station, and one fan left him a lily on his office door in the Harry Potter Studios in the US.

Sir Terry Wogan

Lastly in January, charity lost a wonderful man. Veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan also lost his battle to cancer at the age of 77. His family released a statement that said: “He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time.” Children in Need lost a true hero.

Frank Kelly

In February, Father Ted actor Frank Kelly died at the age of 77. He was well known for his role as Father Jack. His career went on for an amazing six decades, which included being on stage and screen. The actor previously announced to the world that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. That was in October of 2015.

Tony Warren

March saw a true TV face taken from us too soon. The creator of Coronation Street, Tony Warren sadly passed away after a short illness at the age of 79. He had one of the greatest minds within the TV industry. His idea for Coronation Street was developed when he was just 24 years old. This was the start of his writing career.

Paul Daniels

Later on in March, internationally acclaimed magician Paul Daniels passed away from a brain tumor. He was popular for his TV series The Paul Daniels Magic Show. This show ran from 1979 until 1994. Paul left behind his wife, Debbie McGee.

Ronnie Corbett

March also saw Ronnie Corbett taken from us at the age of 85. He passed away in the hospital surrounded by his family. Ronnie was well known for his sketch show The Two Ronnies, alongside the late Ronnie Barker.

Denise Robertson

This Morning’s agony aunt on ITV was amongst the stars that lost their lives in March. Denise Robertson lost her battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 83.

David Gest

April lost a popular music producer. David Gest was sadly found dead in a hotel in London, UK. One of his close friends, Imad Handi, said this:

“David was truly larger than life. He wasn’t just a huge talent and a dear friend but a showbiz icon.”

David was 62 when he passed away.

Victoria Wood

Recently, BAFTA-winner Victoria Wood passed away, surrounded by her family. Victoria very often demonstrated life through her fantastic comedy sketches. Victoria Wood said this before her passing:

“Life’s not fair, is it? Some of us drink champagne in the fast lane, and some of us eat our sandwiches by the loose chippings on the A597.”

Victoria was just 62 years old.

Prince

On April 21st, news shocked the world that Prince had suddenly died at his recording studio in Minneapolis. The musician behind "Purple Rain" and "Little Red Corvette" had recently been hospitalized after his plane made an emergency landing. It was reported that he was suffering flu. Prince died at the age of only 57 years old.

From drama to comedy, too many superstars have been taken from us too soon. Let’s raise our wands, light candles and lay flowers for these fantastic and wonderful celebrities who are now looking down on us.
