My First Impressions of the New Wizarding World Movie

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not seen the movie yet, you probably should not be reading any of this. Do not even start.

Anyhow, I have just returned from a screening and I am dying to talk about it!

After months of anticipation, the day has finally come and our need for learning the truth has been satisfied.

Well, kinda…

I will definitely have to see it again to be able to take it all in, but nevertheless, here are my first impressions.

Wands Ready!

First of all, let's talk about Newt Scamander. Oh Merlin! Can he be any cuter?! If you thought it was not possible for him to get any sweeter and any more awesome than in the first film, brace yourselves! Tina is so damn lucky I can't even tell you! (However, they still have not kissed. We have to leave something for the next three movies, don't you think?)

Second, the Niffler is playing an important role in the story. I am so happy to see that, she definitely deserves it. I presume it is a "she“ because she is not alone any more, having had her adorable little babies.

More beasts to fall in love with as well as our old friends were there. Credence had a better haircut and we returned to Hogwarts (awesome as always). Oh yeah!

I was not so sure about the plot of the story, though. As I said, I will probably need to see it again or read the script to be able to fully comprehend, because the relations among the many different characters seem quite complicated and confusing.

Seeing the trailers and following the buzz before the movie hit cinemas, we kind of anticipated what would happen to some of the characters such as Credence and Queenie, so it was not much of a surprise when it actually did happen.

Also, as we know, J. K. Rowling somehow likes to kill off her characters, so it was also not that surprising when a few of them bit the dust. I would love to see more of her characters fighting inner moral battles and succeeding, instead of dying instantly, but we also know that she is able to recover characters (like Credence) who seemed to be dead, and change canon, so who knows what will happen next.

For me, Fantastic Beasts are mainly about the characters, both humans and creatures, and in that sense, the movie did not disappoint.

Of course, it was great to see Young Dumbledore, although we already saw him a lot in the trailers which might have slightly spoiled the amazement.

Grindelwald was all we wanted him to be and more—riding a black carriage through the sky, sort of how one would imagine a dark wizard coming from some deep woods of Brother Grimm's Germany.

Even though I think it is quite cheap and obvious to use the Nazi/Hitler analogy, which is kind of what we already saw with You Know Who, the movie was indeed thrilling and it is after all still important nowadays to remind ourselves of the worst mistakes from our history.

What I liked were the themes of wounds caused by being oppressed and abused as a woman, an LGBT person, an orphan… I would love to see more of that being elaborated in the story!

For a thriller movie, there was still surprisingly lot of comedy and romance involved, which is what makes these films so beloved. Although, some parts seemed a bit too awkward, and it was quite unusual to see that much of relationship drama and eternal triangle situations in the Wizarding world. I guess we are all grown-ups now.

Merlins Beard! Now we have to wait another two years for the next one

She left us wanting more again...

I think the movie should be called Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of J.K.Rowling, because she did it again!

Do not get me wrong, I utterly respect her and highly appreciate her work, but all I could think of when the movie ended was: Merlin's Beard! Now we have to wait another two years again for the next one!
