The Making of a Hero

The next few days the weird things kept happening to my sisters. Amy kept disappearing and then she would be walking by me and sending me flying across the room even though she was not even touching me. It was as if a huge force was throwing me away. Then, Alexis kept appearing out of nowhere and she would create a wind every time she would walk from one place to another. Jon's visits became more frequent and I would watch my sisters being trained by Jon in the backyard. Alexis' training was fast. Jon was trying to teach her how to fight, but she kept dodging him instead of taking the hits like she was supposed to, and instead of blocking she was dodging him, she was untouchable. But, Jon had said that she had to learn how to control her speed before school started so she would be able to fit in and not stand out like a sore thumb. Amy's training, on the other hand, was going a lot better, she was always fast to learn new things. She had started training with Jon two weeks ago and she was already learning how to move quickly and managing to get a few surprise punches in. There was part of me that wished that I was special and that I had some kind of superpower. It would be cool to learn how to fight and defend myself.

The weeks seemed short and then it was July that came. I woke up with a minor migraine, so as anyone would I took an aspirin for the pain hoping it would subside. I then went outside and thought maybe it was the heat finally getting to me, so I jumped in the pool and did a few laps before tiring out and that's when my headache got worse. I went upstairs into my bedroom and lay down, at this point my head was killing me. That's when things got really weird. I started to feel dizzy and had a hard time standing up. Then I started to hear strange whispers in my head, but they were all coming to me at once. It was as if I was at a concert, but I could hear all the conversations in my head clearly except for the fact they were all happening at once and not stopping. The chatter grew louder and louder in my head. Was I going crazy? Why were these voices in my head? But that was not what bothered me the most. What bothered me most was that all the voices sounded familiar and I had no idea why. I reached for my cell phone and I speed dialed Jon.

"Jon here," rang his familiar voice.

"Something is happening to me I am hearing voices in my head, they won't stop. I don't know what to do," I said and I could barely hear myself speaking to him due to the voices echoing in my head.

"Alright, I will come to get you," he said and just as I hung up, out of thin air he appeared in front of me, but I was not sure if it was a hallucination since, after all, I was hearing voices in my head. He put his hand on my shoulder and then all of the sudden there was a rush of wind and my room was spinning, then there was nothing but white all around me and I was suddenly underneath what looked like a giant clear tube and Jon helped me up and I realized I was in an office space. There was a large desk with a question mark above it. The whole space had clear tubes surrounding the vicinity. The floors were white and the information desk was a light blue. Then where the clear tubes were missing were hallways that seemed to curve away from the front desk.

"Where are we?" I asked Jon as the voices in my head continued talking.

Jon's lips moved, but I could not hear what he said. He then led me to the left hallway that read A above it and we stopped at an elevator and he pressed the button. Jon then faced me and mouthed something like "You're okay" Or "You are a fray." The first option seemed more likely. We rode the elevator up to the eleventh floor and he led me somewhere that looked like a medical center. Nurses were dressed in blue and purple, they passed me and did not give me a second look. Then a man whose skin was blue passed me and nodded at me as if his skin color was normal. Jon led me into a room and he put a helmet on my head and the voices started to die down. Then silence.

"Asmerla?" asked Jon.

"I can hear you!" I exclaimed a little louder than I had anticipated. "What is this place? Where am I?" I asked him.

"Asmerla this is a place called the S.A.J.L. or as we call it, Sail. This is the Secret American Justice League," he said.

"Are you sure I am supposed to be here?" I asked him.

"Yes, you belong here more than anywhere else," he said.

"I don't understand..." I said slowly as I sat down in a chair.

"Yes, I bet you have plenty of questions going through your mind right now. First of all, this is a place where your sisters will be spending a lot of time here for the rest of the summer. Every single person who has abilities such as your sisters work for the government in this facility," he explained to me. "Now, I need you to remain calm, this perfect blonde model is not my true identity. I am Jon Jones," he said calmly.

"What? No you're not, everyone knows he's an alien and the last of his kind there's no" and just like that he transformed into the green alien from the comic books that I remember I used to read.

"Everything you know is about to change," he told me.

"Yeah, no kidding," I replied with the highest degree of sarcasm.

"Now, we will inform your parents of your whereabouts, because we need to figure out what's wrong with you," he said in a much lower voice.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"Remember the energy graph test you did with the stickers?" he asked me and I nodded.

"Well, you came out as negative as in you are not superhuman and that you have no abilities and this is the first time that an irregularity has shown up in someone that had tested negative, so we will be running constant tests and then hopefully those will give us more answers," alien Jon explained to me.

"Why do I have to stay here?" I asked, but I think I already knew the answer.

"To keep you under surveillance for further irregularities in your system and the equipment we need for your testing is too complex to make portable," he replied.

"Okay," I sighed, but he was probably right about it all.

"For now, I will leave you in Trevor Breakstorm's care, he runs most of the machines in here and he invented most of them as well."

Then a young guy who looked to be Alexis' age showed up through the door. At first, I thought he was an assistant or something. He had pale skin with blonde hair and startlingly green eyes.

"Hi, I'm Trevor," he said and extended his hand to me and we shook hands.

"You're like my age," is all I could say.

"Yes, I graduated early from both high school and university and my masters and both my Ph.D.'s," he replied.

"Wow, but you're like my age," I told him again and he laughed.

"I know, don't let that intimidate you though. I am currently undercover in high school so you will see me around your school," he said.

"Oh well, at least there will be one pleasant face that I will know," I said.

"Yeah, that should be nice for you and me. I don't really have friends my age," he said. "Anyways, I will be doing most of the tests with you and see what is up with you. I will go get my clipboard," he said and he stepped out of the room.

"Soon we will know what to do," replied Jon.

"Hopefully," I said.
