'Fight Club' Writer To Adapt Another Of His Novels For Film!

Famed author Chuck Palahniuk wants to turn another of his gory stories into a big screen hit according to latest reports. His 2002 novel Lullaby is the latest of his works set for a theatrical adaptation through a Kickstarter campaign. The project is the brainchild of Josh Leake, who is looking for a modest start of $250,000 - whilst this may seem like your standard Kickstarter, it isn't! Palahniuk himself has already written the screenplay and is attached as an Executive Producer.

This isn't the first time that the novel was due to hit our screens; as early as 2008 Palahniuk was due to be part of a project with Swedish director Rolf Johansson and a 2010 release date. Now hopes are back on that we will see Lullaby, with Leake leading the campaign, alongside Portland-based director Andy Mingo, and Palahniuk.

Palahniuk and Mingo took to reddit for an 'Ask Us Anything' session to promote the project and gather support. On the thread he told us his reasons for wanting to take Lullaby from book to screen:

To get it right. It's never right enough as a book. I want another shot at it. love and kisses.

Seemingly never fully satisfied with his work, Lullaby looks like a chance for Palahniuk to write what ever wrongs he feels the book has.

Lullaby follows the story of journalist Carl Streator, who tragically loses his wife and child in mysterious circumstances. Streator teams up with a corrupt real estate agent, Helen Hoover-Boyle, to destroy an ancient African culling song which is said to be responsible for tragedy in both their lives. Typical to Palahniuk's morbid style, the novel paints a vivid picture of the author's imaginative style. Lullaby was nominated for the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel and won the 2003 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award.

His novel Lullaby deploys necrophilia, gender-bending, and no-way-would-this-make-it-to-comfortable-TV satire. We want to make a movie that makes people feel uncomfortable enough to think original thoughts again, just like Chuck’s novels do. To do that we need your help through Kickstarter.

Rights to several of Palahniuk's novels, including Invisible Monsters, Diary and Survivor, have been sold and we have already seen two of Palahniuk's works adapted for cinemas. In 1999 there was David Fincher's critically acclaimed Fight Club, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, and 2008's Choke, with Sam Rockwell. Fight Club boosted Palahniuk's profile in Hollywood, whereas Choke was met with a more mediocre reception; could three be the magic number with Lullaby? The project is set to shoot late this year if targets are met, with the total currently standing at $210,429 (31.05) and 16 days left.
