Four Super Powers Batman Should Get Now That He's Officially a Metahuman

Bruce Wayne being just a normal guy appears to have changed.

Apparently, the long standing suspicions of Batman being a metahuman have come to light, in a manner of speaking. Those of us familiar with the Dark Knight know that he's never been enhanced in any way, he's simply pushed his body to be in peak physical condition, to where Batman seems almost superhuman. And while he's always given us the impression that he possesses abilities no one else is aware of, Bruce Wayne is just an average guy. However, that appears to have changed.

Batman Is A Metahuman? Sorta

According to the latest issue of Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller has labeled Batman a metahuman, and placed him on her list of targets for her team. There's no direct reason why he's categorized as such, but it may have to do with the Bat's recent encounter with metal dionesium.

During said encounter, Batman used the compound to heal himself, while at the same time, restoring his body back to its peak state. What he didn't realize at the time, is that metal dionesium is derived from the Nth Metal, the source behind metahuman abilities on Earth.

Now, to be clear, Batman has yet to develop any metahuman abilities. As far as we know, the secondary effects of Nth Metal didn't imbue Bruce Wayne with any metahuman abilities. However, it's possible that after he restored his body with the metal dionesium that new abilities emerged, abilities which he decided not to reveal to anyone. And reasonably speaking, Batman isn't going to come out to his Justice League comrades about his new abilities. He's fairly secretive about his personal life and becoming a meta would definitely be something Batman would consider to be very personal. Making it quite uncharacteristic of him to share said info with just anyone.

Does Batman Have Metahuman Abilities, That He's Keeping Secret?

Of course, it's possible that we just haven't had an opportunity to see the Bat open up to one of his fellow League members about his new abilities. Then again, it might not be in Batman's best interests to reveal his status as a metahuman to the League, since that would give them grounds to keep an even more watchful eye on him. Batman is already a very capable individual, and now that he's possibly developing superhuman abilities, Batman could be seen as potentially dangerous.

Batman has always kept his nose clean when it comes to vigilante work, but were he presented with the opportunity to dole out justice in the manner that he saw fit—without any level of restraint, he could potentially become a villain in his own right. That said, we should be on the lookout for any upcoming comic issues featuring Batman, because any one of them could depict the Dark Knight using his metahuman abilities for the first time.

In terms of what abilities will become part of the Bat's repertoire is anyone's guess. Especially when the list of metahuman abilities he could manifest are in the double digits. And while most of them would seem uncharacteristic of Batman, there's no telling which ones he'd be given. That said, these are the four most feasible abilities Batman could benefit from now that he's officially a metahuman.

Superhuman Strength

Batman has been known to stand up to superhumans like Bane, and that's only because he's trained his body to remain in a state where he's able to stand on equal ground with individuals who would break a normal person in half. Batman has found himself in situations where he's extremely outmatched, but he's never let that stop him. Which is why giving Batman superhuman strength would allow him to not be overwhelmed by metahumans who have a distinct advantage over him.

Rather than struggling with metahumans who could once throw Batman against a wall and continue on without a second thought, a superpowered Batman would be able to hold his own in hand-to-hand combat. He'd obviously still have to fight to survive, but superhuman strength would level the playing field.

Healing / Regeneration

One of the more believable abilities Batman could manifest now that he's been subjected to metal dionesium, is accelerated healing. The compound, metal dionesium initially healed Batman's body, and enhanced it to a perfect state. So, it would make sense for any latent abilities to function in a similar way, healing his body at an accelerated rate.

Now, we shouldn't expect for Batman to heal like Marvel's Wolverine does, but being able to heal from wounds intermittently during fights would make a drastic enough difference in combat that Batman could feasibly possess some level of accelerated healing.

Enhanced Reflexes

Another of the more believable abilities that Batman could manifest are enhanced reflexes. He'd be able to keep it secret from his Justice League comrades and the only people who'd know are those Batman trusts with his most personal secrets. Nevertheless, a more combat efficient Batman would make for an even more capable member of the Justice League.

Energy Projectiles

The aspect of Batman gaining a metahuman ability which allows him to fire energy projectiles from his body may seem unlikely at the moment. But you have to remember that every metahuman who manifested additional abilities were all random. No one got to pick what they got, each ability was random, meaning Batman's could be as well. If he falls into the category of metahumans who possesses a random set of abilities, there's a good chance that Batman could develop an ability which allows him shoot energy projectiles.

Personally, I'd like to see the Bats gain all these abilities, along with heat vision. That way, he'd be on a level playing field in an actual fight with Superman, as well as any other superhuman who stands on par with the Man of Steel.

What Other Abilities Should Batman Get?

Assuming Batman does develop metahuman abilities further down the line, he could become a completely different character altogether. Unless, he gains some abilities which don't impact his life too heavily, there's bound to be a drastic change in Batman's narrative. Various versions of Batman have strayed from the original source material in the past, so we shouldn't put it past the current writers of DC's Batman comics to turn their titular hero into a metahuman.
