From The Mind of C. Robert Cargill Is The Short Film You Need To Watch: 'As They Continue To Fall'

So, if you know anything about me, you know that I have a fairly eclectic taste in just about everything. There's very little that I don't enjoy when it comes to movies especially. Yet, there are times when I am drawn in by something that I truly didn't expect. That's what happened about a month ago.

Early in February, I was approached by a short film director, Nikhil Bhagat, who had read several of my recent series entitled "8 Things about..." and he enjoyed my writing. Now, to have another person outside of my circle of friends tell me that they enjoy my writing is, to say the least, a bit of an ego boost. But to have my writing complemented by someone in the entertainment world was all the more exhilarating, because in all honesty, I would love to have some of my fictional stories make their way to film someday. But that's a pipe dream of mine and I'm digressing from the reason that I'm writing this.

Anyway, Nikhil thought I may be interested in taking an early look at his short film, As They Continue To Fall, as it was written by C. Robert Cargill, the lead writer of the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange, which I had just included in my "8 Things about..." series. Needless to say I was taken aback, considering that an opportunity like what Nikhil was offering hadn't happened to me up to this point in my life, so I jumped on it.

I followed his preview link with all the hopes of remaining unbiased and I was absolutely blown away by this short film. It pulled me in from the first silent moment and had me captured right up to the end, waiting for more. As They Continue To Fall opens on a drifter as he scrounges through a dark alley.

This drifter remains silent through the majority of the short, and honestly it feels perfect to just hear the ambient noise and simple soundtrack as we start to get a feel for the cinematic surroundings. Watching the drifter wander gave me this impression that he was ostracized by society, and in turn chose to remove himself from it because there was something else that he needed to do. We get a sense, very quickly of what he needs to do: hunt down angels.

Normally, angels are thought of as creatures of light, of hope, of joy and peace. As They Continue To Fall paints a very different picture of the angels in the world, these angels seem to be uncaring dicks, for the lack of a better word, and have most likely fallen from grace and are trapped here on Earth. The drifter, as we soon find out, has quite a bit more to him than meets the eye considering that he hunts down and rips the wings off of one of these fallen angels.

As They Continue To Fall is a beautiful short, and honestly I don't want to say much else about it because I don't want to ruin your experience when it's finally released. But, if you get a chance to watch it, make sure you do because it's worth the 6 minutes that you give it. I personally hope to see the director's name on more pieces in the near future, because I think he did an incredible job with As They Continue To Fall.
