'Game of Thrones': By Men for Men

Game of Thrones has some awesome characters. Epic worldbuilding and awesome scenes. It's just not always handled well. I'm not surprised, they've got a big cast and multiple points of view. The case is especially true to the way the women were written into the show. Maybe the show is too big for its own good and they need separate shows and films like Marvel does to help make their characters shine. At times it's great, but at other times, not so much.

Things like this make me realise why it's important to have more female writers on the show. I think nobody can write women better than women. It's the same for the men. I hope I'm not coming across as sexist, but that's how I see it. We see that the male characters like Tyrion and Jon—such great characters and they have the best character arcs. That's because men wrote them. They can use personal experiences and feelings.

I loved Dany in the books and in the first seasons, and it pains me how much I hate her in season eight. They turned her into a dictator of all dictators. Even if they planned this the whole time, I think it's a bit disrespectful considering how many people have named their daughters and pets after her.

I started with hating Cersei to absolutely loving her. She may be one of the main villains, and I've been called evil for liking her, but she has a fabulous character arc. I think it's okay to hate villains, and Cersei has always been the most interesting villain to me.

I've never really cried at any of the deaths on the show, but Cersei and Jaime's death made me well up. Theirs should have been handled better as well. Despite the faults with season eight, many have already been mentioned in other blogs, I do love the scene with Ayra killing the Night King and Tyrion weeping over his siblings' bodies was a powerful scene.

Through the eight years the show has been on, we've seen all the characters fuck up, time after time. And all these little fuckups have added up to this major mess we've seen today. What did we expect? A redo of The Lord of the Rings? Happily ever after? I was foolish to think that would happen in a show where people get murdered at weddings and die on toilets.

I don't think we've seen the last of Game of Thrones, personally. I think it will always live on through the fandom and spinoffs. I'm sure there will be people already writing and reading fan fiction as a way to fix their favourite show.

The most popular meme right now is focused on Bran: The boy who did nothing but still got an A+. Then there's Jon: The boy who did everything and got an F.

If there's one thing that hasn't changed, it is my appreciation for the Stark House. Ayra and Sansa are alive and I'm happy about that. They had great character arcs. Though with the stern look on her face and the things she said about Bran, something tells me that she has a sinister plan to take Bran's Throne for herself. I think Catelyn would have been happy with the outcome of her son being King, Sansa Queen of the North, and a travelling hero!

Maybe it's punishment for all spoilers, leaks, and piracy over the years. In the end, I know that Game of Thrones is nothing but a show by men for men. Eye candy for the geeky souls. Justice does not exist in Westeros.
