And now its watch has ended.

After eight seasons, Game of Thrones finally comes to an end, and its series finale, entitled “The Iron Throne,” reveals the fate of that ugly thing made from “the thousand blades of Aegon’s enemies.”

Heart-wrenching, yet with hope for a brighter tyrant-free future, the final episode—which understandably made some fans happy, while making others livid—lived up to the HBO show’s reputation of delivering some of the most memorable images ever seen on TV.

So, who got to sit on the Iron Throne? Needless to say, SPOILERS ahead. It’s no one. Nope, not Arya “No One” Stark. Not Daenerys Targaryen either, as Jon Snow saw to that. And neither did Aegon Targaryen ‘cos he never wanted it. Nope, the Iron Throne—which has been the dragon queen’s sole goal in life (alas, she won the battles, but lost the war)—met its end when an anguished Drogon burnt it to ashes after its mother was slayed by the man she loved most.

In the end, “cripples, bastards, and broken things” rule the day in Westeros. Tyrion Lannister lives to serve as Lord Hand once again, while Jon Snow leads the free folk and Ghost to a better life beyond the Wall. Meanwhile, the Stark pack not only survives, but also produces not one, but two rulers, and one wandering explorer. Ned and Catelyn Stark would be proud.

Without further ado, here are 20 of the most memorable quotes from Games of Thrones’ last ever episode.

1. “Blood of my blood. You kept all your promises to me. You killed my enemies in their iron suits. You tore down their stone houses. You gave me the Seven Kingdoms!

–Daenerys Targaryen to the cheering Dothraki, recalling the promises they made to her in Season 6 Episode 6.

2. “I freed my brother, and you slaughtered a city.”

–Tyrion Lannister to Daenerys, after she chastised him for committing treason against her.

3. “I know a killer when I see one.”

–Arya Stark to Jon Snow, reminding him that as Daenerys knows who he really is—a Targaryen with a better claim to the Iron Throne—he will always be seen as a threat to the dragon queen.

4. “It just occurred to me, you’re probably the only man alive who knows where I’m going… So, is there life after death?”

–Tyrion asking the once-resurrected Jon Snow, as he expects a quick execution by their queen.

5. “My father was an evil man, my sister was an evil woman. Pile up the bodies of all the people they’ve ever killed, and it still won’t be half as many as what our beautiful queen slaughtered in a single day!”

–Tyrion to Jon, when the true heir to the Iron Throne tries to defend the dragon queen’s merciless actions in the Battle of King's Landing.

6. “Love is the death of duty.”“Sometimes, duty is the death of love.”

–Jon and Tyrion respectively, after the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch recalls what Maester Aemon (Targaryen) told him in Season 1 Episode 9, as Tyrion asserts that even though both he and Jon love Daenerys, it was dangerous to allow her to liberate the rest of the world with fire and blood.

7. “They don’t get to choose.”

–Daenerys to Jon, when he asked about the “other people who think they know what’s good” after Dany affirms that both of them know what is good for the realm.

8. "Be with me. Build the new world with me. This is our reason. It has been from the beginning since you were a little boy with a bastard's name and I was a little girl who couldn't count to twenty. We do it together. We break the wheel together."

–Dany to Jon, trying to convince him that they can rule together, now that she has the Iron Throne.

9. "You are my queen, now and always."

–Jon to Dany, kissing the latter passionately before plunging a knife into her heart, becoming a Queenslayer and Kinslayer in one fell swoop.

10. “Uncle? Please sit.”

–Sansa Stark to Edmure Tully, when the Lord of Riverrun attempts to explain why he should be king of Westeros, during the Dragonpit meeting between heads and representatives of the Seven Kingdoms, which include Bran and Arya Stark, Yara Greyjoy, Robin Arryn, Gendry Baratheon, and the new Prince of Dorne.

11. “What unites people? Armies? Gold? Flags? Stories. There's nothing more powerful in the world than a good story. Nothing can stop it. No enemy can defeat it. And who has a better story than Bran the Broken?... Who’s better to lead us into the future?"

–Tyrion, sounding like a modern-day PR guru, advising the Dragonpit council after Ser Davos Seaworth asks who should be ruler of the Seven Kingdoms if the last living Lannister doesn’t want to be.

12. "Why do you think I came all this way?"

–Bran Stark to Tyrion, accepting the Halfman’s proposal that he becomes the ruler of the realm.

13. “From now on, rulers will not be born, they will be chosen. On this spot by the lords and ladies of Westeros, to serve the realm.”

-Tyrion to the Dragonpit council, setting down the rules for the new regime (highly impressive for a unkempt man in chains).

14. "All hail Bran the Broken, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Six Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm."

–Tyrion, heralding Bran Stark as King (of Six Kingdoms) after the Three-Eyed Raven allows the North to be independent upon Sansa’s insistence.

15. “He’s made many terrible mistakes. He’s going to spend the rest of his life fixing them.”

–Bran to Grey Worm, after the Unsullied commander protests the new king’s choice of Tyrion as his Hand, insisting that justice is indeed being served to the Imp for his betrayal of Daenerys.

16. “Was it right, what I did? It doesn’t feel right.”

–Jon to Tyrion, still gutted about killing Daenerys, after the new Hand to the King told him that King Bran has sentenced him to take the black.

17. “I wouldn’t be so sure. A few years as Hand of the King would make anyone want to piss over the edge of the world.”

–Tyrion to Jon, hinting that they might meet again by referring to exactly what he did at the Wall in Season 1 Episode 3.

18. “You were exactly where you were supposed to be.”

–Bran to Jon, when his former half-brother/now cousin apologizes for not being with him when he needed him most.

19. “'A Song of Ice and Fire.' Archmaester Ebrose wrote the history of the wars after the death of King Robert. I helped him with the title.”

–Samwell Tarly to Tyrion, when the latter asks about the big book the new Grand Maester had placed in front of him during the small council meeting.

20. "The Queen in the North! The Queen in the North!"

–The Northern lords and ladies hailing Sansa Stark, as she achieves her childhood dream of being queen, and ruling the North, which she deserves and is adequately equipped to do.

Special mention:

“Perhaps I can find him.”

–Bran Stark, telling the small council that he shall try and locate the whereabouts of Drogon, last seen by viewers carrying the dead body of its mother away from King's Landing. (Will this lead to a series epilogue in the 4K/DVD/Blu-ray set, or in the final two novels, to let Game of Thrones fans know if he succeeded? Watch this space.)
