Game of Thrones is one of the most watched TV shows on the planet. The first seven seasons of HBO’s hit fantasy drama were watched by millions, with viewers now eagerly anticipating season 8, which will be the final season of the show. Season 8 is set to air during the first half of 2019, and fans of the show couldn’t be more excited, especially after HBO released a countdown trailer.

The video footage shows Jon Snow in Winterfell, where he embraces Sansa Stark. This would make perfect sense as the last we saw of Jon Snow in season 7 he was indeed making his way back to Winterfell onboard a boat after attending a showdown with the likes of Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Jorah Mormont. On the journey to Winterfell, Daenerys and Snow had moved closer too, which you would imagine will play a big role in the upcoming season.

Sansa, who also stars in the countdown trailer, had strengthened her position in Winterfell at the end of the seventh season, with younger sister Arya doing away with the manipulative Littlefinger. Arya’s and Bran’s return also helped to make the Starks a force to be reckoned with once again, which should also be key in the show’s final run. Winterfell also plays home to the two people who know of the family connection between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, Bran Stark and Samwell Tarly.

It’s expected that the embrace we see between Jon Snow and Sansa Stark will take place in the early stages of the first episode of season 8, which also represents a bit of a throwback to season 6 where the pair also hugged it out at Castle Black. However, this embrace doesn’t look as loving as the one a couple of seasons ago, with Sansa’s eyes being drawn to somebody else off camera. Could trouble be afoot?

Daenerys, who Sansa warned Jon of going to meet, could be the one the Winterfell leader is looking at, especially as both she and Snow travelled together on the boat there. Or, it could be Arya who Sansa is glaring at, with the last meeting between Arya and Jon seeing the latter gifting the former a sword which became the rather famous “Needle.” Both Arya and Jon were sort of the black sheep of the family, so a reunion would most certainly be poignant.

Whatever happens, season 8 of Game of Thrones is set to be the best yet. With HBO already teasing viewers, there are likely to be further snippets over the coming months in the run up to its long-awaited release. GOT is quite comfortably one of the world’s biggest ever TV shows, with merchandise, video games, slot titles and more released off of the back of its success. With it due to come to an end in 2019, it will be interesting to see what HBO has in store for the millions of fans spread around the globe.
