Get up to Speed with the Flash Season 3

The Flash Season 3 started with a bang, and now we're deep into the consequences of this post-Flashpoint timeline. What is Savitar planning, and will Caitlin become the villain Killer Frost? It's difficult to keep up with all the news, rumors, and spoilers, so we've compiled a handy guide to prepare you for CW's The Flash Season 3.

The Flash Season 3 News, Rumors & Spoilers

After our three week break from The Flash, we're ready to speed back to Central City and discover Savitar's true identity. But we shouldn't expect things to be all wrapped up and resolved by the finale, as TVLine have just revealed that Season 3 will end on a cliffhanger — the show's first.

PRE-FINALE: Barry travels to 2024 to find out Savitar’s identity, where he encounters future versions of himself as well as his Team Flash friends. Upon returning to the present, Barry & Co. meet a scientist (House’s Anne Dudek) who may be the key to stopping Savitar, but they must — literally, and with great difficulty — fight to keep Killer Frost from getting to her first. Afterward, Caitlin’s icy alter ego makes an interesting proposal.SEASON FINALE (MAY 23): After discovering Savitar’s true identity, Team Flash prepares for a final, epic battle with the God of Speed… while struggling with a major setback. Expect a season-ending cliffhanger that will leave viewers — and the heroes — questioning how they will move forward in Season 4.

This total cliffhanger is the biggest gamechanger since Barry reset the timeline at the end of Season 3. Unlike that episode, which saw Zoon defeated and the major conflicts of the season resolved, the final episode of Season 3 may leave the Savitar plotline hanging, meaning we have even longer to wait until we find out how this cliffhanger affects Team Flash — and the #Arrowverse as a whole. I don't know about you, but my money's on Killer Frost becoming the show's main villain in Season 4.

He may not have learned Savitar's identity, but Barry has plenty of trouble on his hands after the shocking ending of "Abra Kadabra" saw Caitlin Snow die, then transform into Killer Frost. After an entire season's worth of dancing around Caitlin's destiny, it's satisfying to see her finally become her villainous alter ego. And this time, as executive producer Aaron Helbing tells Entertainment Weekly, Killer Frost's transformation is going to stick.

"She’s a very, very formidable adversary. She has knowledge of everybody because she’s been friends with them, so she’s really going toward the dark side and we’re going for it."

While Grant Gustin assured EW that Barry would try and empathize with Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes stressed that there will be some surprises along the way.

"Some things are going to happen that the team won’t see coming. There’s only so much preparedness that you can have with things like this."

Helbing also confirmed that Vibe and Killer Frost's duel would take place before Season 3 ends. Meanwhile, a promo for "The Once And Future Flash" has dropped. This episode will air on April 25th.

The Flash Season 4 will finally break from tradition and feature a main villain who is not a speedster. After years of following the same format, this is excellent news, and we're left wondering who the villain will be...

An upcoming episode of The Flash Season 3 has an intriguing title, possibly revealing the identity of Savitar.

'The Flash' Season 3 & the Flashpoint Comic Book

In the comic, Barry Allen wakes up to discover that he has no powers, and the world is much different from what he knew. His mother is still alive, Thomas Wayne (not Bruce) is Batman, the Amazons and Atlanteans are at war — and Leonard Snart is the hero of Central City, known as Citizen Cold.

When the finale of The Flash Season 2 reset the timeline, fans assumed that Season 3 would incorporate many aspects of the Flashpoint comic arc. However, now we know this isn't the case.

The main villains for Season 3 are Doctor Alchemy and Savitar, as Leonard Snart is far too busy joining the Legion of Doom in Legends of Tomorrow Season 2. The alternate timeline known as Flashpoint did feature differences like Cisco Ramon being the richest man on Earth, but it had few similarities to the comic book.

The consequences of Flashpoint will ripple out throughout Season 3, as Doctor Alchemy recruits people with the promise of restoring their Flashpoint powers.

The Flash Season 3 Cast & Characters

— Grant Gustin / The Flash: Previously appearing on Glee, Gustin plays Barry Allen, a perpetually late and good natured CSI whose life is changed when he is struck by lightening during a particle accelerator explosion. Gaining superspeed, Barry becomes the Flash!

— Candice Patton / Iris West: Previously appearing on The Game, Patton plays Iris, who is Barry's longterm love interest from the comic books. On The Flash TV series, Iris slowly discovers his secret identity of the Flash, while she investigates the strange goings-on in Central City as a journalist at the Central City Picture News.

— Carlos Valdes / Cisco Ramon: A nerdy and excitable scientist, Cisco helps Barry harness his abilities as the Flash, creating Barry's supersuit. Later on, it is revealed that Cisco also became a metahuman during the explosion, and is developing powers as the superhero Vibe. Valdes is also a professional singer, and we're looking forward to seeing him demonstrate his musical talent in the upcoming Supergirl / The Flash musical episode.

— Danielle Panabaker / Caitlin Snow: A medical doctor who works at S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin saved Barry's life after the explosion and works to save Central City from metahuman threats. Panabaker first stretched her superhero wings in the teen movie Sky High, where she played a character with plant-manipulating powers.

— Tom Cavanagh / Harrison Wells: In Season 1, Cavanagh played Eobard Thawne, who was disguised as the deceased Harrison Wells. In Season 2 Cavanagh returned as the real Harrison Wells from Earth-2, this time more of an antihero than a villain.

— Jesse L. Martin / Joe West: Surrogate father to Barry and actual father to Iris, Joe works as a police detective, teaming up with the Flash to protect Central City from metahuman threats.

— Keiynan Lonsdale / Wally West: Iris' brother joined the show in Season 2, and Wally's adrenaline-seeking ways soon caused trouble for Barry and Iris. In Season 3, Wally will fulfill his role from the comics and become Kid Flash.

— John Wesley Shipp / Henry Allen: Barry's father was incarcerated for much of Season 1 and 2, and was killed in the Season 2 finale. However, Henry will return in as a major The Flash Season 3 character, now that Barry has reset the timeline. Shipp also played the real Jay Garrick at the end of Season 2, in a nod to his time portraying the Flash in the 1992 TV show.

— Tom Felton / Julian Dorn: Joining the cast for Season 3 is Felton, portraying a mysterious new character who will be a rival to Barry.

The Flash Season 3 Villains

As in previous seasons of The Flash, the villains are all-important in Season 3. Doctor Alchemy and Savitar are the main antagonists so far, with Alchemy's identity later revealed to be Julian Dorn. Savitar claims to be the God of Speed, and thanks to DC's wide mythology, he may be just that...

Other than that, there have been several one-episode-wonder villains, and fans are hoping that Mirror Master and The Top signal the inclusion of more Rogues to the show.

The Flash Season 3 Spinoff

The Flash is technically a spinoff show from Arrow, and halfway through The Flash Season 2, The CW premiered another spinoff show — Legends of Tomorrow.

Previously airing on CBS, Supergirl has also joined this narrative after its move to The CW. These four shows are part of an interconnected story, and there was a massive crossover week in December entitled Invasion!

After the success of this crossover, The CW are planning many more, including a musical episode combining The Flash and Supergirl.

The Flash Season 3 Theories

In the break between seasons, fans came up with tons of The Flash Season 3 theories. In recent weeks, many of these have been debunked, while others have been confirmed — such as Zoom turning into the Black Flash.

CWTV: Hosted by The CW, this website has almost all episodes from The Flash Seasons 1 and 2.

Hulu: A few episodes from The Flash Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Hulu, but it seems likely that these will be pulled soon thanks to the new deal The CW has with Netflix.

— Netflix: All episodes of The Flash so far are available to stream on Netflix, and new episodes will become available a day after they are aired on The CW.

— Amazon: You can pay to stream all of The Flash so far on Amazon, and the DVDs are also availble to purchase from this website.
