If we're honest, in many ways the cult classic animation, ReBoot, was a revelation during it's seven years on air from 1994 to 2001. Created by Mainframe Studios, a Canadian production company, ReBoot tells the story of life within a computer. ReBoot was the world's first completely computer-generated (#CGI) series, and is still looked at as one of the genre defining animations.

In the show we watched as Dot Matrix and her brother Enzo, plus hundreds of other sprites, live and connect with each other within the city of Mainframe. Yet Mainframe is plagued by a virus, Megabyte, and his sister Hexadecimal. A guardian is sent from the Net to help protect Mainframe in an effort to prevent Megabyte from taking control of all the systems.

ReBoot was a series that captured the imagination of countless teens and adults alike as it showed a virtual world that redefined how the younger generation looked at computers themselves. As strange as it may sound, ReBoot was a big reason why I became consumed with learning about technology, and to a point has led me into the field of computer programming.

So, as you can imagine when the news hit that ReBoot was in line for getting a series reboot, I was immediately interested in knowing more. Over the last three years, there have been rumors of the series being redone, but now the fact is that it's definitely coming sooner rather than later.

Considering how far computers have come since the late '90s, it's safe it imagine that the series will evolve much like the technology has since the original series. We've learned recently that Corus Entertainment and Mainframe Studios are working together to produce the re-imagined series, titled ReBoot: The Guardian Code.

The studio has ordered a full 26-episode series that will revamp the technology-driven concept to match the culture that we live now. ReBoot: The Guardian Code will be a multi platform adventure that transcends the current concept of technology. The shows creator, Michael Hefferon says:

As groundbreaking as the original ReBoot was, being the first-ever CG animated series, ReBoot: The Guardian Code takes it to a whole new level.

The upcoming series will star Ty Wood, Sydney Scotia, Ajay Parikh-Friese and Gabriel Darku as heroes recruited by V.E.R.A. (Virtual Evolutionary Recombinant Avatar) to stream into cyberspace in order to protect the world by becoming the next set of Guardians of cyberspace. ReBoot: The Guardian Code is planning to bring the world of technology, coding and cyberspace to a new generation and remind dozens of older fans why they loved the original series as much as they did.

ReBoot: The Guardian Code will incorporate more than just the hybrid live-action #animation series to connect fans to technology. The studio behind the series is planning to incorporate 360-degree interactive mobile games, a digital trading card game and a full #VR experience to bring the series to live in even more ways than fans had back in the '90s.
