Green Lantern Emerald Dawn 2

Green Lantern Emerald Dawn 2

Comic Time Period: Modern Day Comic

To start, I never read any Green Lantern comic books because he's not one of my favorite characters. I simply bought this one because it was in the fifty cent bin and I wanted to learn more about Green Lantern.

Granted, if I wanted to learn more about Green Lantern I don't know if it was wise to start off at Emerald Dawn 2 because that means I'm somewhere in the middle of a series. It may be issue 4, but what about Emerald Dawn 1? What if I missed something important?

And I had.

I was never sure what was going on with Sinestro and Green Lantern. EVER. I knew Joker and Batman had that love-hate relationship, Superman and Lex were secretly frenemies when the masks were off, and I always assumed Lantern and Nestro were always enemies from the beginning, but that wasn't the case in this series and it might not be in others.

So in the beginning of this GL story, we get an attack on Green Lantern and Sinestro as they fly in the sky by citizens of this planet Sinestro was assigned to maintain order in. This is the first time I realize Sinestro is pink, which is surprising because I've seen and played both Injustice games and just thought his skin was a weird shade of white or something.

Towards the middle of the story, we're faced with the realization that Sinestro has mentored Hal J in being a lantern, I don't know how long or why but it just happened. We see this rebellion and we can make an assumption of why the people of this planet really don't like Sinestro, I mean his face is plastered on every street corner on a flag. Which isn't only creepy, but totally dictator-ish.

There is another story where on Earth a friend of Hal has been hospitalized because of who knows what because I didn't read the first 3 books, and he's talking to this man named Mr. Gardner who doesn't understand the concept of "snitches get stitches" (even though this guy looks like he has stitches in a couple of places already), is constantly asking the man who beat him and the man won't answer him with a direct answer.

We then learn that this man, through the power of thought bubbles, knows Hal's secret about the ring. He says someone's after his ring, and I assume it's the same people who beat this guy up.

Hal eventually sees what Sinestro is doing, how he uses violence to put the people on the planet in their place and Hal questions if this is right. He says "no" but Sinestro tells him that they're both to blame for messing with the planet because Hal is his mentee and they both need to escape.

I don't know how Hal is so stupid because he leaves with Sinestro and the whole lantern society comes down to planet hbsehbdkhbshabdiab, and they also see the tyrannical propaganda bullshit that is known as Sinestro's face on a flag and then try talking to the citizens and the citizens are angry at the lanterns and in the end the lanterns whip out the...

FISTS OF THE GUARDIAN

Rating: 8/10

Why: I don't really like Green Lantern stories like this but this was actually entertaining. Lantern is gullible and it's a little frustrating, like, DAMNIT HAL! THINK! But eventually, you realize the plot has to thicken because this is only issue 4 and it should get better.

Comic Shop I bought it at: Graham Cracker Comics, Chicago, IL
