(WARNING: The following article contains potential spoilers for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War)

It wasn't more than a week ago that the newest trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (GOTG2) debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, providing us with a glimpse at Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell) and a more thorough look at Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki). Ayesha is of particular interest here because of her ties to Adam Warlock in the comics.

Is Ayesha Leading To Adam Warlock Joining 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'?

Since Ayesha first appeared in the trailer for GOTG2, fans have been speculating that Ayesha's presence in the MCU will lead to Adam Warlock joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. Even though there has been no confirmation, that hasn't stopped some fans from tenuously connecting an Adam Warlock action figure with the Marvel Legends line of toys for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 as confirmation of the character appearing in the film.

After rumors of Adam Warlock appearing in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. ran rampant, director James Gunn responded with a Facebook Q&A to deny any partnering between the Marvel Legends line of toys for GOTG2 and the adjoining Adam Warlock figure seen with the set. Here's what Gunn had to say regarding the adjoining Adam Warlock figure.

"I think it was not very well thought out because I’m getting questions about. 'Is Adam Warlock in the movie because of the Marvel Legends figures? All you need to do is look at the packaging, you guys. On the packaging cover, it says ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ on the figures that are from the movie and it doesn’t say 'Vol. 2' on the other figures. So, that should tell you what’s from the movie and what’s not."

James Gunn Clarifies Rumors On Adam Warlock In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'

Despite Gunn's comments removing the possibility of the Marvel Legends line of toys for GOTG2 being tied to a cinematic version of Adam Warlock, one news site misinterpreted the information and went to the internet with a follow-up response.

The statement made by Mundo Vengador wasn't well thought out and James Gunn took notice of their mistake by responding to those claims on his Twitter page:

After James Gunn disproved the claims of Adam Warlock not appearing in the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, it raises an even more intriguing question: Why did James Gunn feel it necessary to respond to a rumor that doesn't necessarily reveal anything about the film? Plenty of news outlets publish claims like the ones raised by Mundo Vengador, so why would James Gunn deny a claim that is essentially denying something itself?

Perhaps, James Gunn's agreement with Marvel to not confirm or deny any information pertaining to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 includes addressing all rumors that could be interpreted as the truth. If that's the case, then James Gunn most likely responded to the rumors involving Adam Warlock per his agreement with Marvel Studios. On the other hand, James Gunn's comments might be more revealing than we think.

Did James Gunn Really Need To Address The Adam Warlock Rumors?

For a moment, let's examine the rumor which Gunn denies. The rumor which James Gunn addresses claimed that Gunn himself denied Adam Warlock's part in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Regardless of whether or not it's true, it didn't seem necessary for Gunn to respond to the rumors unless Adam Warlock is in fact in GOTG2.

Reasonably speaking, if Adam Warlock wasn't in GOTG2, James Gunn could have left the claims of Adam Warlock not being in the film, unaddressed. But seeing as how Gunn felt the need to address those claims (which would later be acknowledged to be lies if Warlock is in the film), he acted proactively with a response that leaves the possibility of Adam Warlock appearing in GOTG2 still open.

However, we need to note that James Gunn has neither confirmed or denied the existence of Adam Warlock so for now this is purely speculative. If anything, a major reveal is being prepped for Adam Warlock so it's not likely that James Gunn or Marvel Studios would let a major spoiler like Adam Warlock's existence slip.

Adam Warlock Is Likely Being Prepped For His MCU Debut

Whatever the case may be, the aspect of James Gunn denying that Adam Warlock isn't in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 seems more revealing than leaving fans to figure it out on their own. We also shouldn't forget that Adam Warlock plays a prominent role in the Infinity Gauntlet event of Marvel comics and with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War set being influenced by the Infinity Gauntlet story-line, it's not too far-fetched to believe Adam Warlock is being set up for his debut in either Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 or Avengers: Infinity War.
