Released track from the Halloween soundtrack

The wait is over Halloween fans. From talks of a new movie back in 2015 to Dimension Films losing production rights, Blumhouse, the studio that brought you the critically acclaimed films Insidious, GetOut, and the successful Conjuring films, has obtained the rights to the franchise. Even better, the new film will simply be titled Halloween. No more cliche titles. Goodbye Rob Zombie films that tried too hard to do the franchise justice and failed horribly with a bad sequel.

Halloween, directed by David Gordon Green, is an upcoming slasher film. Releasing on October 19th, the film was written by the unexpected pairing of Jeff Bradley, David Gordon Green, and the comedic Danny McBride. McBride and crew went to Blumhouse and franchise creator & original director/composer John Carpenter about their idea for a new Halloween film. After receiving approval from both Blumhouse and John Carpenter, they pinned the script and even brought Carpenter back to the franchise as an executive producer and to score the music for the upcoming film. You can listen to one of his tracks above, composed with his son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Dawes, titled "The Shape Returns". You can definitely hear how similar it is to his original theme.

Not only do we celebrate Carpenter's return after 36 years, but we also celebrate the return of the original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis and actor/stuntman Nick Castle. Both Curtis and Castle with be reprising their roles as heroine Laurie Strode and the infamous Michael Myers from 1978s "Halloween", directed by Carpenter. This will be the first time the three of them have collaborated together since the original film.

The new film will make a big change to the franchise we know. As the 11th film, it will pick up 40 years after the murders of 1978, disregarding all the sequels that came after.

Here is the official synopsis:

"It's been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, Ill. -- but this time, she's ready for him."

This new iteration shows a Laurie side of Laurie that we only got a taste of in HalloweenH20: 20 Years Later. She has been living in fear for the last 40 years, suffering from PTSD, and has grown to become a warrior who is in the ready to protect her family and her home. Most notably, Myers and Strode will no longer be brother and sister like they added in Halloween II and beyond. YES! I think cutting the family tie is the best thing for the franchise. I loved the original movie is because Michael Myers had no reason to kill and he wasn't humanized. I like how John Carpenter wanted us to make our own distinctions or figure out his motives. To me, giving him a relative and a purpose to kill Laurie made it less interesting. However, they gave a nice nod to it in the first trailer with Laurie's granddaughter, played by Andi Maticha, saying "No, it's not her brother. It's just something people made up." I loved that callback. Although the other films are now removed from canon, I'm excited to see how they reference them all. Check out the recent tv spot below. It seriously made me even more excited to watch this film.

I have high hopes for Halloween. The film is not only scary as hell, but has already been given an 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and positive reviews all around. Halloween opens on October 19th, 2018 and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Nick Castle, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner, and James Jude Courtney (who shares the role of Michael Myers with Castle).

I hope you're ready because this Halloween, we will all be entitled to one good scare.
