The X-Men movies have been notorious for ignoring their comic book source material - just a quick glance at them makes many X-Men fans fume:
- Check out Deadpool-with-no-mouth in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine!
- Anna Paquin's Rogue lacks all the Southern Belle sass of the comic book character, but that's not her fault - she's thrust into a role traditionally reserved for Kitty Pryde or Jubilee!
- Speaking of Kitty Pryde, that character shifted from being the central character of the Days of Future Past storyline to being a plot device in X-Men: Days of Future Past!
But over on CBR, Andre Tricoteux has dropped a bombshell about his portrayal of Colossus in Deadpool. Here's what he said:
They really wanted Colossus to be true to the original comic. That was their vision of him in this movie, so that’s what I concentrated on.
This approach is very different to anything we've seen in the X-Men franchise before. But before we get too excited, we've got to remember that Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse isn't likely to show the same concern for the source-material. Jubilee, after all, is becoming the "mistress of electricity"!
Still, maybe Fox is beginning to learn their lesson - or maybe it's just that the directors of Deadpool have a different attitude..
