Who do you call when you want the ultimate action hero? That's the challenge facing Fox as they choose an actor to play the part of Deadpool's greatest ally (and best bromance), Cable. A warrior without peer, Cable is the kind of guy who can wage a one-man-war and single-handedly take down an army. You're going to need a seasoned actor, an action veteran, a hero... You're going to need someone like...

Pierce Brosnan!

If you're an action-adventure fan, I dare you to hear the name 'Pierce Brosnan' and not start humming a very famous theme-tune. If you don't know what I mean, just take a look at that video. For many, Brosnan was the ultimate #JamesBond, as happy driving a tank down the high street as gun-fighting in an avalanche. His Bond was skilled, sexy, and smart; no matter what the bad guys threw at him, you knew he'd get out. And his enemies wouldn't.

That's just the kind of rep you want for someone who's about to become a one-man warzone. We're getting some tantalizing hints that suggest Brosnan may indeed be about to join the ranks of the superheroes! First, #HughJackman dropped this on social media:

It didn't take long for #RyanReynolds to get in on the act, dropping this on Instagram:

Notice the 'see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil' motif - a clear hint!

Now, let's be clear; these teasers aren't exactly official confirmation. But the hints have been followed up by insider comments that suggest the news is imminent. When congratulated on the casting, David Leitch responded, tellingly, "We haven't [cast him], yet." We Got This Covered has collected comments from a number of industry figures who've heard Brosnan's name in the rumor mill.

Is Pierce Brosnan A Match For Cable?

To fans of the 1990s X-Men comics, that is your typical Cable; a walking wall of muscle who carries a bigger arsenal than your average army. He's a seasoned, battle-scarred warrior with grey hair and a cyborg eye. Now, while this is your traditional design of Cable - it's true to Rob Liefeld, certainly - most artists since then have slimmed him down and cut down on the number of guns (kind of figuring he has to walk while carrying them).

Still, the fact remains that we're looking for a fairly tall male, with grey hair and a history of action roles. You've got to admit, this really is sounding rather like Pierce Brosnan! The fans clearly agree:

It's too soon to say for certain, but personally I wouldn't be at all surprised if Pierce Brosnan has indeed been cast as the X-Men most notable time-traveler. I'm sure that the former Bond could bring the necessary gravitas to the role. After all, Brosnan has the look and he's a seasoned pro when it comes to action movies. Hopefully an official announcement will follow soon!
