With so much currently going behind the scenes of Avengers: Infinity War, as well as the fourth Avengers movie, it's easy to forget the fact that Avengers 4 has already begun shooting scenes. Infinity War wrapped shooting not too long ago, immediately leading into the start of production on the next installment. The as yet untitled Avengers movie will be a culmination of everything Marvel has been working toward for the past nine years, so any news pertaining to the film should be looked at closely. The latest tidbit we've been given on Avengers 4 that is Jeremy Renner will be back and starts filming soon!
During an interview with Collider, Renner talked about his newest film, Wind River, while at the same time opening up about Avengers 4. Since anything Avengers is such a hot topic of discussion right now, Renner probably expected the subject would be broached. Although Marvel actors generally have to be careful about what they say, he seemed quite happy to reveal his upcoming start date. When asked when he'd start filming Avengers 4, Renner replied:
"Like 10 days... Two weeks. Something like that. "
So there you have it, Hawkeye will make some type of appearance in the fourth Avengers film. However, knowing that he will appear in the next Avengers installment doesn't necessarily mean he's safe from harm in Infinity War. Could Renner's role in Avengers 4 be relegated to a flashback sequence? If so, Hawkeye could be one of the casualties of Infinity War.
In all honesty, Hawkeye being one of the only non-enhanced members of the Avengers makes him the most susceptible to dying in a battle with Thanos. Yes, Hawkeye can hold his own during most fights, but I wouldn't count on him surviving an encounter with Thanos, especially when Thanos has an Infinity Stone in his hand.
Keep in mind that there's also a distinct possibility that the MCU will get an overhaul and completely revamp the universe. Speculation arose quite some time ago on the potential for the Infinity Gauntlet to be used in a plot that would see some major changes made to the narrative of the MCU. If that is in fact what's happening with Avengers 4, Hawkeye could return to the main story, despite being killed in the initial confrontation with Thanos — that is, if Hawkeye perishes during the Infinity War at all. For all we know, Hawkeye could be one of the only Avengers left standing.
All things said, it's interesting that Renner is up and running again, so to speak. He recently injured himself on the set of Tag, making his return to the set of Avengers 4 all the more questionable. Then again, reports of Renner's injuries exaggerated the extent to which he was hurt. Some believed that the incident would impact Renner's filming schedule for Avengers: Infinity War, but those fears can now be quelled, knowing that he's raring to go for Avengers 4 in less than two weeks. Renner didn't elaborate on how long he'd be present for shoots, but his presence on the set means some form of Hawkeye will make it to the culminating Avengers movie.
