I was recently in San Jose attending FanimeCon 2017 and that entire thing was wild. As usual, there was a lot of great cosplay to be had. People came in droves wearing their absolute best and it was great just to be able to shoot with some of them.

Just like at Stan Lee's Los Angeles Comic Con, I didn't get to shoot with everyone which was unfortunate. However, here are some of my favorites from Fanime!

10. Genji - Overwatch

Cosplayer: Koreanbarbq

He had a Genji-themed fidget spinner which I felt really added to his cosplay. I didn't take Genji to be a meme-lord but there you have it.

9. Winry - Full Metal Alchemist

Cosplayer: Daniella.Claire

Daniella was one of the cutest Winry's I'd ever seen. Also, she's very tiny so she had a tiny wrench with her. A regular sized wrench might have been too hefty to carry around. That thought alone is extra adorable.

8. Mikasa Ackerman - Attack On Titan

Cosplayer: Badass_Momkasa

That smoke isn't Photoshop. She was patient enough to let me vape on her for the effect. Second fun fact, her swords are full metal which meant they were heavy as all get out. Living up to her handle, it was completely badass.

7. X-23 - Logan

Cosplayer: TheScientistWrangler

Just because it was an anime convention doesn't mean everyone was out cosplaying anime characters. I ran into a very convincing X-23 sans claws at the con. Her claws didn't get made in time, unfortunately. Simple, stellar cosplay nonetheless.

6. Sassy Wendy - Twitter

Cosplayer: Anna_Lynn_Cos_

Look, the minute the Wendy's Twitter account caught hot fire this was pretty much inevitable. The fact that the account came off like a smug anime girl probably helped as well. A bunch of fan art happened and then the cosplayers got involved. What a time to be alive, people are cosplaying a fast food mascot.

5. Moana - Disney's Moana

Cosplayer: Mama_Mia108

I feel like it's a cardinal sin that I haven't seen this movie yet. I haven't seen a lot of things. I can still appreciate a dope cosplay though.

4. Cindy Aurum - Final Fantasy XV

Cosplayer: Maru

I haven't played FFXV either which is super embarrassing considering I was sent to cover the game late last year. Still, there's been a lot of great cosplay that came from that game, so it's a winner in my book.

3. Commander Shepard - Mass Effect

Cosplayer: Braith Cosplay

Someone cosplaying as one of my favorite characters ever? I'm in. Look, anyone who is willing to wear a full suit of FemShep armor in the brutal weather we had in San Jose is a winner in my book. The armor looked even better in real life, trust me.

2. Reaper - Overwatch

Cosplayer: GrayDogCosplay

I loved this cosplayer's rendition of everyone's favorite Edge Lord, Reaper. Also, he was kind enough to let me apply smoke effects (aka vape into his hood) to his cosplay so that was neat. It was a hot day when we met so I have no idea how he didn't die die die. It was really hot.

1. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy - Mass Effect

Cosplayer: circosplay

I love Mass Effect to death. I love it so much that a majority of my shoot time with circosplay was spent gushing over Mass Effect. Tali happens to be one of my favorites from the series. Everything about her character is compelling and I loved seeing her grow throughout the series.

This list barely scratches the surface of what there was to see over at Fanime. I'm excited to go again next year and see how people up their game yet again.

Bonus Round - We Live For Cosplay

PaperArtWork was also at Fanime doing his best to get as many cosplays as he could. Where I was taking pictures, he was taking video and has put together a monster compilation from FanimeCon 2017. Check it out!
