Here's Your First Look at Marvel's New 'Spider-Man' Animated Series for Disney XD

Back in October 2016, Marvel announced that #UltimateSpiderMan was set to be replaced with a new animated series on Disney XD, simply titled Spider-Man. Since then, details have remained quite scarce — not even the cast has been announced. All we've had so far is some concept art showing Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen and Anya Corazon (Spider-Girl).

But today, we were given a glimpse of the latest animated adventures of the wall-crawler — Spidey doing battle with the Scorpion in a museum.

As usual, the battle is filled with the web-slinger's usual brand of quips and an example of the "Parker Luck" when his web cartridge explodes.

This is obviously from fairly early in the series as it features Peter wearing a homemade costume, not unlike the one he'll be sporting in #SpiderManHomecoming — in fact, it's very similar to that design with the classic red and blue color scheme but without any of the spider designs. Rather than a full mask, Peter's mouth is exposed and the goggles over his eyes are reminiscent of the ones on the homemade suit in the upcoming MCU film.

It makes sense that the homemade suit would be very similar to the suit used in Spider-Man: Homecoming as #Marvel does like to have a certain synergy in their media. For example, when The Amazing Spider-Man was released in 2012, the Spider-Man comics featured a storyline with the Lizard as a villain. The same was true in 2014 with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 — not only had Peter Parker regained control of his body from Doctor Octopus, but the villain featured on his return was Electro, just as in the film.

How Does It Compare To Previous Spider-Man Cartoons?

Of course, this isn't the first time Spider-Man has been brought to our television screens in animated form. Throughout the wall-crawler's half-century existence, this latest series will be the ninth time that Spider-Man has graced our screens in his own series. The first was in 1967 and gifted us with the amazing theme tune we all know and love ("Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Does whatever a spider can..."), which Homecoming will include in orchestral form.

From the '60s series to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Spectacular Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man, everyone has their own series that first introduced them to Spider-Man. My first encounter with Spidey was in the excellent Spider-Man: The Animated Series of the 1990s. We all have our favorites, but ultimately each show brought a new audience to the character.

The new series, Marvel's Spider-Man, is an opportunity to showcase Spidey's values and heroism to a new generation — and after a somewhat mixed reaction to Ultimate Spider-Man, it's only right that Marvel seeks to refresh their hero once again. With the imminent release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel will aim to bring their animation in line with their movies, hence the similar suit.

If the series is anywhere near as good as Spider-Man: Homecoming promises to be, we're in for something special. It's gone a little under the radar at the moment, but with the release of this clip, momentum will surely build.
