Hold The Door, Who Kills More Characters, 'Game Of Thrones' Or 'The Walking Dead' ?

It's decision time, with a gun to your head, would you rather survive in a zombie apocalypse or a world of dragons and direwolves? Personally, I would take the bullet, but Redditor nachorykaart has figured out whether it is safer to live in Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, working out the death toll from the first five seasons of each show. Captain America was revealed as the ultimate butcher of the MCU, however, on television, which show gives you the best chances of survival?

#GameofThrones is immortalized by its line "Valar Morghulis," (all men must die) while #TheWalkingDead is quite literally a show about death. Fair play to nachorykaart, they have strained through hours of footage to calculate the deaths from the first five seasons, split into main character, side characters, background extra, and the ever-important non-human threat. It is Battle Royale as #AMC and #HBO go head to head, but can the rotting zombies dethrone the wave of white walkers? Let's go at it, round by round:

Main Characters

As each show tried to establish themselves as a no-holds-barred tale of misery, their formative seasons offed some pretty big players. In Westeros, Catelyn and Robb Stark never made it out of Season 3 alive, while Ned Stark didn't get past Episode 9. The Walking Dead waved farewell to the likes Lori and Shane, as well as the eye-patched Governor in its first five years. Either way, if you want to run your own apocalyptic community or sit on the Iron Throne, you might as well turn back now.

Side Characters

For all your Starks, where are the water-carrying Greyjoys, and for every Governor, where is the Milton? While they may not receive top billing, the side characters of both shows often get caught in the crossfire of the big players. Actor Ian McElhinney was less than impressed with Ser Barristan's death in Game of Thrones, while poor Madison Lintz barely got to open her mouth as Sophia on The Walking Dead.

Background Characters

Who could forget Unsullied #35, or Terminus Cannibal #12? If you thought being a side character was a bad rap, try being one of the show's many extras chucked in to pack out the big action scenes. There guys might as well have "kill me" stamped on their foreheads. Given GoT's climactic battle scenes, it is no wonder that HBO runs away with this one.

Non-Human Characters

So, looks pretty cut and dry; a win for Game of Thrones eh? Well, we are forgetting that reanimated corpses technically count as a "non-human" threat. Thrones's White Walkers weren't such a big deal in the first few seasons and non-human deaths were usually left for horses or direwolves. The Walking Dead has always had a huge threat of the undead, so how many have been run over, put in fish tanks, or been sliced with a katana? Apparently A LOT!

As both shows entered their stride, the body counts have risen dramatically. The Walking Dead recently upped its death toll thanks to bat-swinging Negan, and we said goodbye to two huge characters. Also not included were the many, MANY, deaths from Game of Thrones Season 6, a.k.a. the season of death, mainly stemming from the final two episodes. The Walking Dead did have the key advantage of having 67 episodes in its first five seasons, while Game of Thrones was a nice round 50. Ultimately, HBO has a much higher percentage of giving its main cast a send off, and isn't that who we really care about anyway?

The point is though, both shows kill a lot of people — wouldn't you rather go and live on Orange Is the New Black? Even prison is better than having your brains scooped out by undead menaces.
