How 'GOT' Changed My Life

And what I learned, except don’t fall in love with ANY character because they’re going to die. #VocalGOT

How 'GOT' changed my life?

Well, first of all:

Don‘t ever, ever, EVER fall in love with ANY character in this show because they‘re going to die and your heart will be ripped out and you'll be traumatized for your whole life.

Yeah, and that‘s it. That changed my life forever. The end.

Just kidding.

That'd be awfully painful and depressing, wouldn‘t it?

Nope, with the era of Trump, motherfu$%&r Thanos, and the climate change that everyone wants to ignore, I refuse to be negative and to see only bad things. I want to sprinkle some optimism and positivity in this world, like GOT did for me (most of the time… sometimes… well, you know what you mean. It's brutal, but I love it, ok!?).

'GOT' changed my life because it taught me how precious life is.

Yes, a lot of beloved characters die, BUT that's life, isn't it? Frank Sinatra agrees on that, too, and you're welcome for the catchy song stuck in your head now.

Muhahaha…

But seriously, while I am watching all these amazing characters—except you, Joffrey! I still hate you, you little Motherf§$%!—and fear for their lives, I also realize that every moment could be their last. Our last.

Every episode could be their final episode, and so I appreciate them and the time we’ve been spending together even more.

I am grateful that they are and were a part of my journey. Because life and all of its adventures are precious. And so are GOT characters.

'GOT' changed my life because it taught me not to judge someone on the first impression they make.

I’m looking at you, Tyrion, my darling.

To be honest, I didn’t like him at first. I thought he was an asshole. And in the beginning, I didn‘t like how immature and stupid he behaved. He seemed to be arrogant and didn't care about anyone except himself.

But after a few episodes, I started to like him. Every moment I got to know him a little more, I fell more and more in love with him. For me, he is the heart of GOT.

Tyrion has been treated horribly and disrespectfully by his family and other people, but that didn’t stop him treating everyone with respect. And THAT shows character.

That shows greatness.

And that’s extremely inspiring.

Also, what would the world be today if we didn't have his wisdom?

———————————————————————————

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not.Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”—Tyrion Lannister (Season 1, Episode 1)

———————————————————————————

“And a mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone.”—Tyrion Lannister (Season 1, Episode 2)

———————————————————————————

“That’s what I do: I drink and I know things.”—Tyrion Lannister (Season 6, Episode 2)

———————————————————————————But not only Tyrion, also Jon Snow and other characters proved to me that you shouldn’t judge people easily because of how they appear at the first meeting. Everyone has a story that made them who they are.

So you can’t just dislike people if you don’t know WHO they really are.

Except for Joffrey. He has been an f§%$&ng asshole from the beginning and I had the most torn but satisfing moment when he finally died. And he had it coming!

'GOT' changed my life because it gave me Miss Badass herself, the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys.

I mean, like daaaaaamn look at this woman! She’s fierce, strong, vulnerable, and a freaking queen! She’s a leader who can achieve anything she sets her mind to.

Daenerys is an absolute babe. I guess we can all agree on that, can’t we?

And as a strong woman myself, I definitely look up to her. She inspires me to be braver and to go for what I want.

Except eating a bloody horse's heart or burning men alive. I mean, that's a little bit too rough for me, but I get it, Dany. She needed to make some serious decisions to demonstrate these men who's the queen.

To have a Daenerys over the last eight years as a representation of a strong female leader in media is beyond awesome. Because we still need more strong and complex female characters to whom little and big girls can look up to. But Daenerys definitely contributed to that as the show was getting bigger and bigger.

And to be honest, don’t we all just want to scream “Dracarys!” and have a huge badass army to solve all our problems? #lifetimegoal

'GOT' changed my life because it taught me that “the Pack survives.”

Sadly, one of the wisest characters dies super early in GOT and he not only showed me very brutally that everyone could die in GOT (this was my first WTF-moment watching GOT), but he also implanted in me an important life-changing lesson.

His name is Ned Stark and the lesson is:

"The pack survives."

What exactly do those three words mean?

That you’re the strongest when you’re with your pack. No matter how bad it’s going to get in your life, if you have people who love you and support you, you can endure anything.

This was a hard thing to learn for me. Even now it’s still something I’m struggling with because I would describe myself as a loner. I love my alone-time and I love to do things on my own. I'm not really good when I need to be depended on by someone or ask for help.

As long as I can remember, I've always done things on my own and I was proud to have achieved goals and dreams without any help.

But the further I go, the more I learn how lonely that can be and that at one point you need your team, your family, your friends, or your pack.

———————————————————————————

"The winters are hard, but the Starks will endure. We always have."—Ned Stark (Season 1, Episode 1)

———————————————————————————

Because the only thing in the end that matters is that you are with the people who love you and you feel loved.

What a cheesy sweet learning, eh?

But as it was proved in GOT, even sacrificing your only child doesn't help you to get that much closer to your goal. It only makes you a terrible and sick person.

Well, now you know how 'GOT' changed my life.

I mean, looking back over the last eight years at all these exciting, beautiful, horrible, and sometimes reeeeally brutal moments, I’m actually really surprised how and that this show impacted me and so many other people in such deep levels of life.

Or are we or am I just thinking too much about it? If that’d be even possible.

Maybe I don’t know anything at all, like Jon Snow.
