How 'Skyscraper' Is Essentially Ripping Off 'Die Hard'

'Die Hard' in a Building. 2

Man, these days, The Rock is in every movie, isn't he? I mean, every single month, you check out the new movie trailers and at least one of them is starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

And one of his upcoming movies actually looks really good. It's called Skyscraper, and it's about this cop, right? He's trapped in a tall building when terrorists come in and they kidnap his family. And now, he needs to save his family and kill the terrorists. Why, what a brand new, amazing idea. OH WAIT.

First things first, I want to get something straight: I wrote a spec script called Code Red to practice my screenwriting skills and hopefully make an independent film. And I'm the one who was planning on ripping off the story of Die Hard.

So, I don't know who Dwayne Johnson thinks he is, with his big muscly arms, in a movie that pretty much ripped off my ripoff of Die Hard.

But no matter how true that story is about my spec script, Skyscraper is pretty much a Die Hard ripoff. Just with some differences. So, I'll be analyzing the new Skyscraper trailer, and also comparing scenes to Die Hard.

So, let's start off with the first moments. We see Johnson's character, Will Sawyer, who wears a prosthetic leg and has a similar family to John McClane. A wife, a son, and a daughter.

The difference between John and Will is that instead of being estranged from his family, Will has a very good relationship with his wife and kids.

Will's family is living in The Pearl, which is the tallest building in the world. And it's run by this guy.

Okay, I'm not racist. I'm Asian too. But this guy looks like the owner of the building, and I feel like his role in the film will be very similar to Takagi in Die Hard. He's either gonna get killed by the villain pretty soon or he's gonna be working with the villains as a plot twist.

We also get a very Die Hard-esque shot here.

In the beginning of the trailer, we saw Will lose his leg in a major accident. And I believe that the main villain of this film will be the villain who Will lost his leg to in the beginning.

His family gets taken, and in a later scene from the trailer, we see Will running away from people in a helicopter, firing a machine gun at him. It is unknown if the people in the helicopter are villains or police officers who believe Will is a terrorist.

But come on, is this not exactly like a scene that we saw in Die Hard?

And we see Will taking a death-defying jump to avoid getting shot at. And if this movie takes basic physics into account, Will is not surviving this jump.

In the scene after this, we see Will dangling from a rope, hanging off of the building.

And if you've ever seen Die Hard, you'd know EXACTLY what scene this is similar to.

AND if you're the writer of a spec script that I just so happened to write (called Code Red, by the way), you'd know how similar both of these scenes are to a scene that I wrote for my independent film. I WAS GONNA MAKE AN INDEPENDENT FILM, DAMMIT!!

But jokes aside, this movie looks like an awesome action thriller. The only movie I've seen with The Rock is Moana, and this looks a tad bit more awesome and badass than Moana.

So, I'll definitely be watching this movie.
