Hugh Dancy From 'Hannibal' Swaps The Kitchen For The Bedroom In 'Fifty Shades Darker'
This time Dancy will be on the other side of the couch, serving as psychiatrist to Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey in sequel Fifty Shades Darker.
For three season's of NBC's gluttonous feast, Hannibal, we saw a tortured Hugh Dancy play traumatized FBI agent Will Graham. This time Dancy will be on the other side of the couch, serving as psychiatrist to Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey in sequel Fifty Shades Darker. The sequel to E.L. James's erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey sees original stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan return, alongside Kim Basinger, Rita Ora and now Dancy.
Dancy will play Dr. John Flynn, brought on board to deal with Christian Grey's ever growing psychological issues as a former flame, Mrs. Elena “Robinson” Lincoln (Basinger), reappears in his life. Darker follows the events of Fifty Shades of Grey, when Johnson's Anastasia Steele starts a new job away from the clutches of her boss/lover. Steele is still haunted by some of Grey's former flames, especially as Lincoln is the woman who introduced him to his S&M lifestyle. Expect Dancy and Dornan to be sharing some sordid details of his sex life and push the boundaries or patient/doctor confidentiality.
Dancy is currently part of Hulu’s The Path with Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan, while his other works include, Elizabeth I, King Arthur, but most notably Hannibal. Luckily, the worlds of Fifty Shades and Hannibal aren't a million miles apart, so Dancy's inclusion is full of promise. Both stories look at the rather warped minds of individuals and their strained relationships. The love/hate relationship between Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter was explored during Hannibal's three seasons, but hints that the two were lovers were never fully confirmed. Let's just hope that the lengthy stop gap between Fifty Shades and Fifty Shades Darker hasn't diminished our appetite for the series. The addition of Dancy is sure to make us "hungry" for more!
Director James Foley is filming Fifty Shades Darker and a third, Fifty Shades Freed, back to back in Vancouver. You can see Dancy and Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker on February 10, 2017, with Fifty Shades Freed aiming for a February 8, 2018 release date.
