Fox's X-Men movies aren't always visually like the comics. One of the most notable differences has always been that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine simply never donned that trademark yellow-and-blue spandex. Now that Jackman's bowed out of the franchise for good, many fans are devastated at the fact we seem unlikely to ever see him suit up.
Or are we? In an amusing tweet, Jackman has just teased that he may well choose to pop those claws one last time ... for Halloween!
For X-Men fans, it's like Christmas has come in October. But it's worth remembering that Jackman has a history of teasing the fans with this much-loved costume.
Don't believe everything Hugh Jackman says.
However much fans longed for Jackman to suit up, Mangold never really felt it would work. As he explained:
"Nothing seems less Wolverine-like than the desire to put on a trademarked outfit , particularly canary yellow, and kind of prance about doing good deeds and have people go, 'Oh my God! It’s The Wolverine!' ... I somehow feel that if somehow we ever put Hugh into one of those outfits, people would not be happy. Essentially, it’s something that lives on the page and I’m not sure could live anywhere else."
That didn't stop Jackman dropping a suggestive tweet during the filming of Logan, and soon fans were excitedly speculating that he'd finally wear the costume as part of that emotional swan song.
In reality, the action figure itself turned up in the film, played with by one of the young Weapon X clones. As if acknowledging the prank he'd just played, Jackman celebrated Logan's theatrical release by dropping yet another taunting teaser:
Jackman's latest tweet is epic trolling, and if you read it carefully you'll see exactly why he won't be wearing this outfit for Halloween. Notice the second hashtag, "Too Tall." Again, it suggests a key difference between the comic book Wolverine and Jackman's portrayal: In the comics, Wolverine is only 5'3" in height, explaining why his nemesis Sabretooth often refers to him as a "runt." Hugh Jackman, on the other hand, is 6'3". Not only does that mean Jackman is very different in physique to the Wolverine of the comics, it also means he's not going to be wearing a children's Wolverine costume for Halloween anytime soon. It simply won't fit.
So sorry, #XMen fans, this one is probably just Hugh Jackman having a laugh. He knows you want to see him in costume, but it really doesn't look likely to happen. At least, if this tweet is anything to go by, it won't be happening this Halloween.
