I Do NOT Care That You DON'T Watch 'Game of Thrones'

If I Have to See This Comment One More Time on Social Media...

Let the hate begin!

Hello.

Good morning. Or evening, or what have you. How are you? You doing good? I hope so, because it's time to argue! You ready? Let's do this!

Alright, let me start by saying that for the past couple of years, I've been noticing a slight trend that has plagued quite a few shows that are popular, or have their moment in the sun. I have noticed a certain crowd of people who take some sort of weird joy in letting others know that they do not enjoy the same show or shows as millions of other people do. I call these people the "joy stealers."

They like to make it a point to say, "While everyone is watching (insert show), I'm just over here like, 'I've never seen an episode.'" Or they'll just outright say they've never seen an episode of said show(s). I just want to say "Good for you, but no one asked, and no one cares."

I, for one, certainly do not care that you've chosen not to take part in watching a primetime show that millions of other humans have chosen to feast their eyes on. It's none of our business that you don't watch said show, and we're not going to go out of our way to say, "Awwww, why not?" because...no. You don't want to watch? That's your prerogative. And be happy about it! But do not sit there on Sunday night, every Sunday night at 9pm (because you sure do make sure to keep track of when it comes on exactly), and make a social media announcement on how you don't watch Game of Thrones or whatever show people indulge in. I especially think it ridiculous when authors from magazines write up pieces about how they don't want to watch it because of whatever reason.

Are you looking for a cookie?

A gold star?

You won't find it. If anything, you're looking for attention. Maybe even looking to start a group for people like yourself. And you should do so. Please. Then all of you can sit around and chat about how you do not watch said show. And be 'singular' together.

As for myself, I like to enjoy my Game of Thrones in peace. I've opted to try and ignore the snide remarks or declarations of those who try to make it seem like they're the better person for NOT having seen Game of Thrones. They make it seem like those who do watch are a part of some large group of sheep; that they're somehow setting themselves apart in some significant way. And you are. In a way. You're a part of a group of people who seek attention for saying something that they should've just kept to themselves, if they don't care about the show. If you don't watch, there's absolutely no need to make a bold statement about it. No one needs you to go into a group discussion of people who do watch the show and make that fact known. That's almost equivalent to saying, "Yeah, I don't eat chocolate chip cookies. Everyone else has, but I haven't." And not only saying that, but saying it every time you see someone eating a chocolate chip cookie. The fact is you don't need to though. You most certainly don't have to share this information about yourself, especially if no one asked. No one likes a Negative Nancy who's negative just for the sake being so.

It boils my egg to see this same comment every week. This show has been on for a bit now, if you still don't watch, okay! But do not go out of your way to make it a point to say it every single week. It's redundant.

Like the meme says, "Let people enjoy things!" We don't all have to dance to the same beat, sing the same tune, or watch Game of Thrones. You don't have to like the same things that others do. The fact that I do like to engage in discussions with those who DO watch the show, and love it like I do, is only a plus. I find it an annoyance to have to see someone basically trolling/complaining every week. Do us all a favor and go bask in the joy of your favorite show. Be joyful! But for the love of God, please shut up about not ever having watched Game of Thrones or Power or any other primetime show. You look crazy when you relay the same message every single week.

Rant over.
