Is Tom Holland's Motion Capture Gear Teasing Space Suit for Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War?

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Homecoming follow.

It's been a few weeks since our first look at Avengers: Infinity War was released in a behind-the-scenes look. In that time, fans have been dissecting every screenshot possible for potential spoilers. One of the more interesting images from the released concept art for the movie depicts Rocket Raccoon alongside Thor.

The concept art isn't all that surprising when we've known for some time that the Avengers would be teaming with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos in #AvengersInfinityWar but some keen-eyed fans took notice of Thor's new weapon in the concept art below:

The concept art depicts Thor wielding a staff-like weapon. Only the long portion of the staff is visible, but Thor's new weapon could be any mystical item from the pages of Marvel comics or a new item altogether.

Apart from the concept art glimpsed in the featurette, the clip also teased one of the sets that is undoubtedly going to be an alien planet introduced in Avengers: Infinity War, one in which could be the stage for the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man's first ever team-up.

The set image is only brief but we can see Robert Downey Jr., Chris Pratt, and #TomHolland all on set. Pratt is in his full Guardians attire, while RDJ is in plain clothes. Holland's attire, however, is most intriguing.

Why Does Tom Holland Need Motion Capture Gear For His Part As Spider-Man?

Looking closer at Holland's attire in the featurette, he's wearing a jacket that appears to be covering something other than his usual Spider-Man costume (the top portion of Holland's Spider-Man costume extends up to his neck without the mask on). More importantly, Tom Holland is wearing some interesting motion-capture gloves that he's attempting to conceal in his pockets.

Presumably, the gloves are going to be an extension of Holland's character, which will probably be used for Spider-Man's web shooters. However, Holland didn't use motion capture gear to film his scenes in Captain America: Civil War, nor did he use them on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

A practical accessory was added to the #SpiderMan costume to emphasize the web-shooters, so no motion-capture gear was necessary to add more visual effects. This begs the question: Why does Holland need the motion capture gear for Avengers: Infinity War?

It could be that Spider-Man is donning some heavy duty web-shooters in Avengers: Infinity War, or there's a good chance Tom Holland isn't going to be wearing a traditional Spider-Man costume at all. Instead, Holland could wear a costume more fitting for his adventure in space when the Infinity Wars roll around

Since #SpiderMan and the Avengers are presumably going to venture to an alien planet to fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, the Avengers and Spider-Man will be required to suit up in costumes fitting for an adventure in space.

With that in mind, Tom Holland's motion capture gear on the set of Avengers: Infinity War could signify the space suit he'll be wearing. If so, Holland's costume might be a variation of the classic Iron Spider suit or a custom painted Iron Man suit from Tony Stark.

Some could argue the mo-cap gloves aren't enough evidence to confirm Holland's new Spider-Man costume in Avengers: Infinity War, but when we look at how the Infinity Wars are probably going to take place in space, it changes things quite a bit.

Iron Man is well equipped to handle space adventures, but none of his Avengers comrades would last one minute in space without a suit, which means they're going to need space suits. If the image of Tom Holland wearing mo-cap gloves is indicative of the space suit he'll be wearing, then we can probably count on the other Avengers donning space suits of their own, which is even more intriguing.

In the scenario of the Avengers being equipped with space suits of their own, the entire Avengers team could look like a team of Iron Men when they assemble against Thanos. We won't know if the Avengers are going to be donning space suits until we see some actual footage from the film. Until then, we can only make guesses on what the footage glimpsed in the Avengers: Infinity War featurette was teasing.

As for Tom Holland wearing those motion-capture gloves and what they may signify, they're most likely related to the new costume Holland will be wearing as Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War. Had the set images of Spider-Man: Homecoming not eliminated the possibility of Holland using those mo-cap gloves for web shooters, then we might be able to ignore the mo-cap gloves. But, considering how Holland is didn't need them for Spider-Man: Homecoming or Captain America: Civil War, the mo-cap gloves are likely significant of Holland donning an all new costume in Avengers: Infinity War.
