Oh, those romantic comedies are all the same! You have the couple who falls in love, your encouraging pals right by your side, and then you bonk your head and end up in a world of a romantic comedy.

Isn’t It Romantic stars Rebel Wilson as Natalie who knows quite a lot about romantic comedy, but refuses to believe in love. Natalie’s whole world suddenly becomes a romantic comedy with men falling for her, a spunky gay guy friend helping her out, and her dreams are too good to be true. How will she ever break this curse?

At first, I was skeptical about this film, but I was proven wrong. Although an obvious plotline, there are a few surprises. And also touching moments that lead up to a meaningful message.

If you don’t know who Rebel Wilson is then you better go watch Pitch Perfect right now. Wilson portrays outspoken characters who are never afraid to speak their mind. I have always enjoyed watching Wilson’s talented improvisational skills. She outdoes herself in Isn’t It Romantic. I know this film is going to open the door to even more compelling roles for Rebel Wilson.

The film also stars a few other notable actors. Starring as Rebel Wilson’s best friend is, well, her actual real-life best friend and co-star from the Pitch Perfect trilogy, Adam Devine as Josh. Their overall chemistry sells their friendship.

Liam Hemsworth stars as Blake, the handsome and hilarious guy out of her league, but not in the alternate romantic comedy world. You won’t be disappointed and that’s all I’ll say.

Priyanka Chopra and Betty Giplin also make memorable appearances. Chopra is Josh’s out of his league fantasy girlfriend and Giplin as Natalie’s encouraging best friend turned work enemy in the romantic comedy world.

There are even two short, but memorable, appearances by Jennifer Saunders as Natalie’s negative mother drinking an ice cream combined with wine. Hilarious! And Alex Kis starring as a young Natalie—even though her appearance was brief, Kis still left a strong impact. I do hope this young actress is given more parts in films. I believe that she could go far.

And last, but not least is Brandon Scott Jones, the scene stealer as the spunky openly and over-energetic gay Donny. I was laughing whenever he was onscreen and just waiting for him to return.

The essence of Isn’t It Romantic is comedy. There is no holding back. Since they were making fun of romantic comedies actors they were allowed to be as over the top as they wanted. Rebel Wilson is the queen of comedy, especially most of her one-liners. Her delivery is spontaneous. She really surprised me with her acting abilities.

One of my absolute favorite scenes is the karaoke number. The cast shines in this fun musical number, showing off in dance, song, and high energy. I could feel myself smiling from ear to ear. I actually kind of wish the world would have a daily random dance number each day.

Isn’t It Romantic is a fun picture to see in theaters. It’s not another pointless romantic comedy. It’s a strong and witty film with a meaningful message. If you want to love then the first person you need to love is yourself.

Audiences can most definitely share a laugh or 100 laughs as you watch Rebel Wilson try to comprehend every bizarre scenario. It’s meant to be over the top and it works.

Rebel Wilson is definitely at her best. I recommend Isn’t It Romantic. It’s a clever storyline that will surprise you. Bring your beguiling date and have a blast!
