Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 4.

Jamie Lannister has had a rough few years in Game of Thrones, losing his hand, his father, and all of his children. In the latest episode, "The Spoils of War," his life may have finally taken a dive into the deep end (literally) after facing his most difficult test yet - a fire-breathing dragon. The show has delivered riveting battle sequences throughout the entire seventh season, but the battle in The Reach between the Dothraki and the Lannister/Tarly alliance truly captured the spectacle of a fantasy-inspired medieval battle. In particular, the scene proved to be a huge turning point for the Kingslayer, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has since spoken about what the epic confrontation means for Jaime Lannister.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coster-Waldau spoke up about his fiery clash with the Mother of Dragons. First and foremost, he went on record to say that he felt sympathy for the Lannister soldiers.

"Even though Daenerys is the hero and the Lannisters are the villains, being burned alive is not great. It's a terrifying thing when this monster flamethrower comes along and incinerates thousands of men who are just doing their job."

Given the obliteration that occurs thanks to an unleashed Drogon, it's not surprising to hear that Nikolaj feels sympathetic towards the Lannister soldiers. While bringing the latest episode to the small screen, HBO set the record for the most amount of stuntmen set on fire, with 73 "fire burns" and 20 people simultaneously ablaze for a single shot.

Was Jaime's decision brave or stupid?

As Jaime looked over the battlefield, he chose to make a bold (and possibly fatal) decision to charge at the Mother of Dragons. In this moment, Drogon had been grounded by Bronn's arrow and Jaime thought he had a chance to end the war imminently. However, Coster-Waldau didn't think highly of his character's decision.

"Jaime is such an idiot that he thinks for a second, ‘If I can do this, I can win the whole thing in a Hail Mary.'"

This was the final moment we saw Jaime, and fans have been left to wonder whether he'll live to die another day, or if this truly was his final scene. His actions can be seen as a brave, last ditch effort to become a celebrated war hero rather, something he's struggled with for much of his life after being named the Kingslayer. As many fans have noted, he's still the lover and brother of Cersei, so some question whether his heroic move was to serve his queen with blind ambition.

Although the actor didn't discuss the details of his character's fate, he did mention the type of goodbye George R. R. Martin and HBO have in store for the character.

It's not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can't imagine.

Anybody who has been paying attention will surely have a sinking feeling when thinking about Jaime's fate. If this truly was the end of Jaime's time in Game of Thrones, fan's hopes of Jaime becoming the Valonquar (the 'little brother' prophesied to choke the life out of Cersei) may have been debunked.

Many fans believe that Jamie now understands the severity of Cersei's madness and hope that his humanity will get the better of him. It would certainly be fitting for Jaime to be the one who saves Westeros from the Mad Queen, but we'll have to wait for next week's episode to find out if he makes it out of the water alive.
