In case you were one of the many fans still left wondering how the post-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would affect the narrative going forward, James Gunn has addressed how he intends to build off of those various post-credits scenes.

The one we should be paying attention to in particular is the one involving Sylvester Stallone's Stakar, and his team of Ravagers (who were the original Guardians in the comics) reuniting. Gunn recently talked with The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, where he elaborated on Marvel's plan to develop the Ravagers' plot thread even further.

Will Stakar and The Ravagers become the next Guardians?

In the interview with THR, Gunn emphasized his interest in developing their story after the current lineup of Guardians concludes their journey. The assumption from fans has been that Stakar's Ravagers will take over for Peter Quill and his team after Guardians 3. While those claims have yet to be validated, Gunn's answer to that debate seems to be leaning in the direction of Stakar's team becoming the next #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy. Here's what Gunn had to say:

"I’m definitely interested in the direction that these characters (the Ravagers) are headed and their roles in the Marvel Universe."

Of course, the prospect of future cosmic tales being told in a potential fourth Guardians movie are merely being discussed by Gunn and Kevin Feige at the moment, nothing is guaranteed. The only Phase 4 films currently in development are #GuardiansoftheGalaxy3 and a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, so the Guardians' future is up in the air. That said, we should probably take Gunn's enthusiasm for expansion of Stakar's team as a good indication of a fourth Guardians movie happening. Here's what Gunn had to say:

"Those scripts are already in the works. Kevin and I talk about it all the time; we just had a meeting today. Discussing what is the next iteration of cosmic characters and where are the characters that we’ve already created going to go in the next batch of films."

After examining what Gunn had to say, it appears as though discussions over which cosmic characters will take over are in the first stages. Assuming both #KevinFeige and James Gunn are looking at Stakar's team for the next Guardians, they'll likely be at the center of a fourth movie, if it happens at all. However, Stakar's team will draw a strong line away from their comic counterparts in the Guardians 3000 line of comics, making their role as new Guardians all the more intriguing.

Guardians 3000 won't influence the MCU?

According to #JamesGunn, the MCU's version of Stakar and his Guardians won't reflect their comic counterparts from the 3000s. Those comic characters were in the prime of their life, working as heroes, whereas the MCU's adaptation depicts them as seasoned fighters who've resorted to a life that crosses over into crime to make ends meet. Here's Gunn's full statement on the matter:

"That (Guardians 3000) is not something that we’re dealing with. These are older characters and more criminal than our Guardians. So we’re focusing on that."

Another intriguing proposition: With Gunn's mention of Stakar's Ravagers being more criminal than their comic counterparts and our current movie Guardians, could they become antagonists to Peter Quill's team? It would be interesting to see the dynamic play out if the Guardians, who aren't always the most noble heroes, were to run up against a team who were legitimate criminals.

Is a clash between two versions of Guardians possible?

Here's how it could happen: In the long run, Stakar becoming a hired hand again in the criminal underworld makes the most sense. His team being part of the Ravagers, a group of mercenaries, could believably be hired for a high-end job, one that'll get them spotted by the Guardians, leading to an impending clash. Probability aside, there's also a distinct possibility that Stakar and his team could be hired by Ayesha to eliminate the Guardians.

After the Guardians left Ayesha defeated in #GotGVol2, she definitely had a motive for revenge in creating Adam Warlock. But, Ayesha could decide to take her plans of vengeance one step further by hiring mercenaries like the Ravagers to take out the Guardians. If that's the case, then we may see Peter Quill go head to head with Stakar in a cosmic battle of the ages.

My guess is that Stakar's Ravagers will seek out the Guardians after they're hired by Ayesha to kill them. Ayesha will then use the resulting fight as an opportunity to get rid of two troublesome factions instead of one, by setting #AdamWarlock loose upon them. In that scenario, the Guardians and the Ravagers would likely form a truce to stop the rampaging Warlock, resulting in them becoming one team by the time their conflict concludes.

Apart from theories and speculating, it'll be interesting to see how Stakar a.k.a. Starhawk's team of Ravagers play into the cosmic side of the #MCU, following the third Guardians movie. Hopefully, Stakar and his crew take over because they're definitely a team many fans want to see take center stage in a Marvel movie.
