Jennifer Lopez Hasn't Heard From Her Family In Puerto Rico Since Hurricane Maria Struck
Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico this week, leaving over three million people without power, and more than 95 percent of the island's wireless cell sites are out of service.
Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico this week, leaving over three million people without power, and more than 95 percent of the island's wireless cell sites are out of service, according to Ajit Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Division. The storm effectively cut off Puerto Rico from the rest of the world, leaving family members who now reside off island desperate for information.
Jennifer Lopez, born to Puerto Rican parents, took to her Instagram page to talk to her 69 million followers about the urgent need for assistance. In her video, Lopez said she and her cousin have been unable to reach some of her family members that are residing on the island.
Though the Shades of Blue star said trying to figure out the best way to help was weighing most heavily her mind.
“What’s foremost on my mind and many others is trying to figure out the best way to help. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Areizaga. Together we can help rebuild our island, and the Caribbean.”
Lopez isn't the only celebrity awaiting word from family members. Actor Rosie Perez has been worried for her family members for days, posting a series of tweets to update her family, friends and followers on information from the island.
At the time of reporting, Perez has still not heard from all of her family nor has Lopez. While the efforts to survive and rebuild begin, Puerto Rico is trying to evacuate 70,000 people as the island's Guajataca Dam is failing. Such an effort will undoubtedly cause further rescue delays.
In the meantime, we can follow Perez on Twitter and Lopez on Instagram for further updates on their families and keep good thoughts in mind for the victims of this massive storm.
