Star Wars actor, John Boyega is putting the Star Wars universe aside as he joins the cast of the ‘Watership Down’ remake for BBC One and Netflix. The star who played the part of Finn in ‘The Force Awakens’ is set to play Bigwig in the all new four-part adaptation of Richard Adam’s story. With Bigwig being the more strongest and the bravest of the rabbits in the film. But he must fight against the savage enemy General Woundwort. Woundwort will be voiced by Sir Ben Kingsley who starred in Gandhi.
Matthew Read who is the commissioning editor for BBC Drama said this:
“Before there was Harry Potter there was Watership Down, Richard Adams’s novel is one of the most successful books of all time and one of the biggest selling books in history. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to bring a modern classic to a mainstream BBC One audience with such and incredible roster of actors alongside the talented team overseeing the animation. This fantastic take on the novel will unite the whole family, and bring this classic story to a new generation.”
Other stars have come forward to be a part of the BBC and Netflix coproduction which airs in 2017. These are X-Men star James McAvoy who is voicing ‘Hazel’. ‘Fiver’ the rabbit with frightening vision of destruction will be voiced by X-Men and Skins star Nicholas Hoult. The well known Olivia Colman is playing the character ‘Strawberry’, Freddie Fox as ‘Captain Holly’ and last but not least Anne-Marie Duff as ‘Hyzenthlay’.
It is currently unknown whether there will be a remake of the classic song ‘Bright Eyes’ by Art Garfunkel. ‘Bright Eyes’ was made for the original adaptation. But will someone else take to the microphone and recreate this classic song or create a new one?
