First airing on September 24, 2007, The Big Bang Theory has become one of the most successful sitcoms of all time. The CBS sitcom has run for twelve years, and now it’s coming to a close with a bumper one-hour long special episode on May 16. Running for twelve seasons, The Big Bang Theory is the longest running series of that genre, which is a huge achievement for the cast and crew, but with the finale almost upon us, it’s set to be an emotional one, so tissues will be essential.

With the finale just around the corner, a new trailer has been released ahead of the jam packed finale, which takes us back to the very start in 2004. The trailer (linked below) is a montage of clips from the entire show, starting with the scene where Leonard and Sheldon meet their new neighbour, Penny, for the first time. Amongst this scene, other iconic moments are shown ahead of what is going to be an emotional finale for fans to sit back and watch. Weaved into the trailer are a range of behind-the-scenes clips, which give us goosebumps. It’s actually happening, the show will close its doors next week.

Speaking about the grand finale, Kunal Nayyar, who plays Raj, has spoken out about the last ever episode. Nayyar jokingly said:

"Only one-character dies. We're saying goodbye to the show, but in the world [the characters] wake up [the next] morning, and go to work, eat Chinese food, and hang out and navigate life."

With the finale filmed, and ready for broadcasting, the production team has begun dismantling the set in the Warner Bros. studios, and it’s a sad sight to see. Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard, has shared a video on his Instagram page of Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment being boxed up, and taken down. His video contains the caption “breaking down The Big Bang Theory sets on Warner Bros Stage 25. Coincidental soundtrack apropos.’

Whilst it’s sad to see the set dismantled, Kaley Cuoco has recently revealed that she’d like to see a spin-off show for her character Penny, providing a certain someone proposes it to her. Cuoco said:

"The only person I would say yes to is Chuck Lorre. So, if Chuck came and said let's do it, I'd say yes. Other than that, I don't see a spin-off for myself. But I don't like to say no to Chuck. So, if he wanted it, I'm in."

Speaking of the finale, Cuoco went onto saying that The Big Bang Theory’s finale is “one of the sweetest finales” you’ll ever see on television. The other popular sitcom, Friends, is well-known for its sweet ending, but is The Big Bang Theory about to challenge Friends, and make their finale a whole lot sweeter?

The Big Bang Theory has tackled a range of storylines across the twelve years it’s been on CBS, and E4 in the United Kingdom, so it is going to be interesting to see how the writers tie the show up completely. There’s currently no word on what the finale will be about, and what it entails, but fans know it is going to be emotional.

Producers, the cast, and all the production have been tight-lipped on what to expect, so all fans can do is sit back, enjoy the bumper finale, and maybe weep as the door to apartment 4A is closed for the last ever time.

The Big Bang Theory comes to a close on May 16 in the United States, and it will air at a later date in the United Kingdom on E4. What has been your favourite moment from the series?
