The Eyes and Plunger-Ears of the LarryBoy Universe

I never thought I would dedicate a YouTube channel to my favorite superhero. But... it happened.

Humble Beginnings...

From two separate VeggieTales calendars—Pages converted into "posters"

People always thought that I was crazy for being a huge fan of a superhero with plungers for ears. When Phil Vischer (the founder of VeggieTales) had first had this character sketched on paper, he didn't think, "Oh, what if people dismiss him, because of the toilet plungers on his head?" Same here: I looked past that quirk, because I knew what this hero was capable of.

I grew up watching LarryBoy videos, collecting his merch, and hoping and praying for more videos and content. I remember catching LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows as a Pay-Per-View movie on DirecTV back when I was ten years old, and that was where my curiosity had sparked. Even when I was drawing a picture of him the very next day, my family was amazed. I remember my sisters (or somebody in the group) saying, "Oh, that's that guy from the TV show yesterday."

Sometime later, when I was eleven, my grandma came home with a large bag of VeggieTales videos (I'm pretty sure she got them at a thrift store or somewhere like it), and in that pile was LarryBoy and the Fib from Outer Space and LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed. I immediately selected Fib from Outer Space, and we watched that VHS tape in the living room. I was happy.

LarryBoy Plushie

Eventually, I ended up getting a LarryBoy plushie (which I still have to this day). I remember coming home from the dentist (or some kind of doctor—I just know that we had to go across town to get home), and a LarryBoy plushie was sitting there waiting for me in the living room. I was so happy that day.

Saving Me... In Real Life

As years go by, LarryBoy continues to make me happy. I can watch something like LarryBoy and the Bad Apple and be careless and happy. That was my go-to movie on countless occasions—birthdays, Christmas, and even on the loneliest nights where I had no friends to hang with. I've been alone for much of my life, and LarryBoy was who filled in the void.

LarryBoy is funny, he's smart, and he's nothing like all the other heroes like Batman, Superman, or any of the heroes in the Marvel Universe. He was different. He was underrated. And I was the only one that understood who he was.

Birth of a YouTube Channel

Now, you might be thinking: "How did this lead to starting a YouTube channel?"

Well, I didn't get acquainted with YouTube until back in 2011, when I had started going to college. Every once in a while, I would check out YouTube videos on my laptop computer (very ancient compared to the laptop I have now, by the way). And without having a solid plan for it, I decided to imitate some of the YouTubers I would watch like KidBehindACamera (Michael Green from The Angry Grandpa Show), and create my own channel. At first, they were just vlogs about school, but those few videos only got a handful of views. The problem was that I didn't have a niche—I didn't have a topic. And then it dawned on me: I'm a huge fan of LarryBoy.

My setup: Laptop, mic, filter (for mic), and my desk

And that was how LarryBoy Fanatic was born. On my channel, I would do Top 10 Lists, movie/video reviews, editorials, etc. about my favorite superhero. I even have a hand-drawn mascot for my channel.

Every once in a while, I would think back to how all this started, and I would smile, because I feel like I'm doing a service to my hero. I would be nothing, my life would be incomplete, if I didn't have LarryBoy in my life.

So, in a way, my YouTube channel exists as a way of telling him, "Thank you."
